(Talking Points Memo)   Senate Intelligence panel blocks former staffer from talking to the press about oversight. How is it that Congress sucks at everything else but keeping people from badmouthing them in the press?   (tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 25

They might be great at everything else. But they spend so much time on the whole "keeping people from badmouthing them" thing, that they never move on to the next agenda item.

Is there any way to read this other than they are afraid of being outed as providing effectively no oversight and are operating as nothing more than a rubber-stamp for the NSA/CIA/FBI?

I'm not surprised, given that most rules in Congress seem to be crafted with the express purpose of a) preventing anything from getting done and b) making members of Congress look good.

Looks like they're failing spectacularly at that.

Prohibited from disclosing UNCLASSIFIED information about our government to a reporter.

What's next in this administration's War on Journalism?

Pretty sharp group named here. I can see why they would not want staffers sharing their stupidity.

More Than Half The Senate Skips Town Rather Than Attend Briefing About NSA Surveillance

Senators skip classified briefing on NSA snooping to catch flights home

A recent briefing by senior intelligence officials on surveillance programs failed to attract even half of the Senate, showing the lack of enthusiasm in Congress for learning about classified security programs.

Many senators elected to leave Washington early Thursday afternoon instead of attending a briefing with James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence, Keith Alexander, the head of the National Security Agency (NSA), and other officials.

Great job if you get it.

Yeah, everybody will think that Congress is completely full of idiots and shills. . .with the solitary exception of the brave representative that they voted for to take on the corruption in Washington and return the government to the people.

The Senate is not part of the administration. Three branches of government and all that. I understand that no amount of fact or reason will ever get you to pull your head out, but I felt compelled to point out the stupidity of your comment.

Psst congress is not part of the Obama administration. You might want to take elementary government courses again.

It could be they're holding a former counsel to attorney-client privilege, rather than freeing someone you expect absolute confidentiality from to spill whatever.

Also, TPM is butthurt because it thought it had a good source but now doesn't.

They're also really good at passing shiat on the fly, when it affects them directly in a negative way.  Just look at how quickly they passed FAA funding when it meant they couldn't start their vacation on time.

Increasingly reading the word "bipartisan" makes me very concerned for what is about to follow.

So you are saying the Administration has absolutely NO influence on any members of Congress or anything they do?
Well, that is an interesting viewpoint.

So why is it called Obamacare instead of Senatecare?
