Great, Lolo, you've managed to also piss off your track friends while you fumble around trying to cover your bobsledding comments.

Poor, poor Lolo Jones. Nothing good ever happens to her. Eye roll.

2013-06-18 07:33:04 AM
The greatest moment of the 2012 Olympics was watching this arrogant biatch not even medal in the hurdles. Although I did have to listen to the annoying Ato Boldon say that she "came in a respectable fourth." The NBC track announcers are disturbingly awful.

2013-06-18 07:46:17 AM
In talking to some of her bobsled and skeleton teammates (both disciplines compete under the USBSF and FIBT banner), it's split about 50/50: Most appreciate that the little bit of money athletes earn doing this is being brought to light, but there's a split of people who feel like she's just being Lolo Jones and those who feel like she's really trying to bring the athlete pay thing to light.  That said, if she was, in fact, trying to bring the whole thing to light, there's a ton of better ways she could have handled it.  She's been on morning TV shows, various sports shows and things like that and not once brought it up.  Instead she went with "tacky video on Vine".

Even if she was sincerely trying to just bring the paltry amount our Olympic athletes live off of (not to mention all the developmental athletes we're trying to bring through the ranks), she did so in the most tacky way possible.

2013-06-18 07:52:30 AM
So she's trancended Olympic athelete and leveled up to full attention whore? She's got some stiff competetion in that arena too, if she has any illusions of winning the gold medal. Although, her angle is pretty good.....all the other professional AWs got their big break from a sex tape (or porno in the case of the backdoor teen mom). She got hers by denying the cock. Maybe thats the secret weapon to help her clear that last hurdle on the slippery slope to stardom.

/see what i did there?

I forgot about that.  I am sure she can do some modeling, she is a very pretty girl that is in great shape.

2013-06-18 07:59:48 AM
Now with all that said, she only competed in 1/3 of the FIBT events during the season, being out-pushed at various times by teammates.  She still did hang out at the track for all the women's (and some of the two and four man) bobsled races, helping lug sleds and stuff like that.  She was a pretty great teammate during the year to most of her USBSF teammates, so I really want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it was just really, really poorly handled.

She can just FARK right off.

She gets to pursue her childhood dreams, and although she isn't paid well she does have her food/lodging taken care of by the US Olympic training team.

I would have given up so much in my life to become an Olympic athlete whose sole responsibility was kicking ass.  She needs to reflect on just how lucky she is.

I wouldn't go that far -- she's a very, very good hurdler who will unfortunately be best-known for hitting the 9th hurdle in the biggest race of her life in Beijing and blowing a gold-medal (potentially AR, OR, or WR, too) performance. To wit: she set the season's best mark in the semifinals in Beijing (12.43), which currently ties her for the 14th fastest woman to run the 100 hurdle ever (and, in fairness, a large number of the faster runners are from the doping era in Eastern Europe). Did NBC over-hype her, especially in London? Yep. But is she an untalented hack? Nope (or, at least Oakley and Adidas don't think so -- they sponsor her). Do bobsledders deserve something resembling a living wage when competing internationally? Yep. Will that happen anytime soon? Nope.

Of course she's talented, but extremely overhyped for whatever reason.  Even in her own event she's not the best American.  I don't get it.

Yeah, it's brutal.  Developmental teams have it even worse.  If you're on the North American Cup or Intercontinental Cup teams and have to travel around, you're doing a lot of that out of pocket then reimbursed.  At least the WC gang get stipends to cover their expenses up front.

Oh, even better was when they had two other members of the US track team in for a "special interview."  If I remember correctly, both of these women medalled.  They were asked about Lolo this, Lolo that.  I think there was only one or two questions that was actually about their accomplishments.

Yes.  She's the third best hurdler on her team.  He's the third best QB on his team.

I understand that I'm insulting the religious convictions of the oversensitive by daring to question the  media hype surrounding these two but the parallels are fairly obvious.  There aren't many Fark threads about Allyson Felix.

People only get paid for their hobby when people will pay to consume said hobby.   I don't know anyone who would go out of their way to see a bobsled race on anything like a regular basis.

If there were some cabal of bobsled team owners pocketing millions in bobsled event and merchandising revenue, she might have a point.  But since there isn't, she seems to be making the point that "I work hard, I should get paid."  Which is clearly not how things work.

They have sets of grandstands brought in all over Europe for FIBT events, and the World Championships held in 2012 were very well attended all seven days.  The bulk of the money that comes into the USBSF is via corporate sponsorship, with private donations also taking up some of that fundraising.  The organization is non-profit.  The money goes toward helping out with equipment costs (skeleton athletes are all expected to pay for their own sleds and runners, bobsledders are helped some by Bo-Dyn and BMW), and the top-tear World Cup folks are given a stipend for their travel throughout the year.  USBSF also has to pay for coaches, trainers and all of their travel as well.  Trainers are only on the World Cup level, anyone sliding internationally at the Europa Cup, Intercontinental Cup or NOrth American cup are on their own for any kind of physical issues they have.

In short, representing your country's expensive as shiat.
