The boxes are all from a pallet, which means they all have the same thing in them.  Judging by how they bounce, and giving him the benefit of the doubt, they're almost certainly not breakable.

I've done a similar job and you quickly learn which boxes need you to stoop and place them down and which ones you can spare your back by dropping.

That having been said, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG -- NOW YOU HAVE TO PICK THEM UP AGAIN.

It's worse than that...the sub is a re-badged Daihatsu. He could have dropped the belt box high and put in a simple XY-translate, and any box would never be more than about 6 inches from the front of the sub. He wouldn't really have had to even pick them up once.

I've received packages that clearly received forklift forks into them.  Nice horizontal punctures.

UPS just farked up the third car part I ordered, a 4' long metal plate for the bumper.  Probably some sorting machine slammed it around a corner giving it a nice bend.  Although one of the delivery exceptions sounded like someone stole the part.

I gave up and found a local albeit more expensive source.

I knew a guy that bent a 1/2 inch thick crowbar. He wasn't the most intelligent person I've ever known.

Which kind of makes you wonder what the value is of off-loading and on-loading those boxes one-at-a-time. Why not shrink wrap a pallet, push the whole thing up into the plane's hold, and stow it? I know some of those holds aren't very big, but even 2 or 6 or 10 shrink-wrapped pallets would be easier to load than 120 individual boxes.


I bet the airline is trying to make more money by renting out some of their cargo hold for commercial shipping, and since it is just a passenger plane probably does no have a hatch large enough to take pallets.

I'm not at all surprised. Airlines are batting around .500 when it comes to sending my luggage on a different journey from the one I'm on, but they always manage to deliver it unscathed within at most 24 hours. Except once. That exception was Iberia, the Spanish airline.  When my sister in Italy got married, my wife, daughters and myself flew from Montreal to Milan on Iberia with a stopover in Madrid. When we retrieved our luggage, we discovered that all our suitcases had been run over and split-open and much or our stuff missing. The most puzzling was my suit, which I had bought especially for the wedding, it was still there, but the collars of the jacket and shirt were missing, with clearly visible burn marks. How ???
What was even worst was Iberia's reaction. They weighted the remaining luggage and declared themselves responsible for something like $20/kg (I forget the exact amount, but it was something ridiculous) for what was missing, with their Milan rep acting insulted and becoming upset and belligerent when I wouldn't accept. In the end I told her to forget it and that I would settle this once back home, in the meantime we had some shopping to do for new clothes. Fortunately, their Montreal office was a lot more cooperative, but no one in the Capt household will ever again fly on Iberia.

A Shambling Mound: See, now I'm just picturing an A320 with a hold full of loose boxes sliding around like some kind of hydro-simulation. Not heavy enough to bring down the plane, just heavy enough to spook the pilot.


There are cargo nets in the various cargo holds to keep the sloshing of bags to a minimum.  Even if the ramp apes are lazy and don't use them, there are so many bags and the cargo holds are so small that unless the pilot does a negative G push over, the bags aren't going to move much.

The same thing happens (though not so comically) at Fedex and UPS.  Not your friendly driver...he/she's always good.  They're the face of the company you meet.  But the people at the warehouses?  It's box hockey time!

When it comes to shipping, my attitude, and the attitude I instill in my college age underlings is "pack your boxes like they're going to be attacked with bats".  Cuts down on the breakages considerably.

I recently sent a poorly-taped box across Canada via Greyhound, and it arrived intact.  Actually, all of my half-assed packing jobs have survived rattling around in a bus hold for three days.  I was impressed, but Greyhound doesn't have a feedback option on their website for me to tell them that.

Wow.... Just wow... I was a lumper for many years..  I (un)loaded skid on to a conveyor in 1/3 the time and never missed the belt... And had all labels facing up...   Of course I had performance and accuracy bonuses and penalties..

Is it true if you declare a firearm (even a starter pistol) in your checked baggage, it's pretty much guaranteed to not get lost?

Anyway, regarding the video, I guess that's the consequence of free shipping from AliExpress, though I gotta say the items I've ordered from there practically need a hacksaw to be unwrapped.

I worked for the USPS when I was younger for the Christmas season overhaul.  2 things I learned from those 3 months:

1.  USPS warehouse workers are some of the laziest self entitled douchebags to ever hit the planet.  Some 40 yr old is complaining because he has no other job skills except sorting pieces of paper and wah wah I'm only making $27/hr. with pensions and benefits on top.

2.  Never, EVER, mark your package fragile.  9 times out of 10 it'll get through fine, but more often then not, it got hucked up the belt just a little harder than the rest.  Just let it be inconspicous and move on.

I worked as a 'Christmas Casual' one year at the USPS and was appalled at the the way packages were treated! If the package said 'fragile' I actually saw workers throwing them up on the conveyors! So this doesn't surprise me at all.

The pallet he unloads them from is meant for a wide body plane.  Cargo holds on narrow body planes can't handle pallets, and he is loading a narrow body A320.  He is probably pissed at the dispatcher who had him load the wide body pallet, and then made him unload it into an A320.

When checking a bag or shipping FedEx/UPS, expect a 10ft drop onto concrete.  Even if some ramp ape doesn't chuck your package/luggage off the plane, the sorting facilities are full of nice impacts from hydraulic hammers and other sorting equipment.

Y'know, there are similar responses in the comments on that article, but the simple fact is that it still doesn't excuse his deliberate attempt to damage each & every box on that pallet.

The benefit, hopefully, is that his supervisor will recognize him in that video and send him packing.


His supervisor is probably the one that taught him how to load cargo.

I was responsible for shipping and receiving a lot of air cargo at a previous job. The rule was never ship any package that you wouldn't feel comfortable jumping up and down on. (see pelican cases or similar). Too many bags pass through too many people at too many places for anyone to care about your particular piece of cargo. Luckily what we used to ship wasn't fragile.
