Same case, the vertical one isn't square shaped, it's an optical illusion. Think of it as you are looking at the box dead on straight.

I'm undecided still. With the PS4's version of the Kinect it's basically 40 bucks cheaper than the XBone. Better graphics though, and less evil features-wise. I'm leaning PS4 but I love my XBox360 and XBox does have some big exclusives...

Honestly though, both boxes, meh. The graphics really aren't stunningly better anymore. I remember watching the Ryse game - amazing facial features, and sure the game's probably a beta, but the soldier doesn't blink a single time in like 3 minutes of talking. Takes away from all the time spent working on facial expressions. And at my age, I'm just so used to the same cinematic stuff in these types of games. Not a blow me away thing.

I'm going to wait for something mind blowing in terms of the games coming out. A game changer. So far I'm not seeing it. For all the improved graphics and performance, I can't see any reason right now to switch boxes. Halo Reach and Halo 4 were worse games than Halo 3. And then there's the network aspect of game and media distribution. It's probably my ISP (TimeWarner has a monopoly in my area basically) but my Xbox Live connection is terrible - and therefore my Xbox Live experience has been terrible.

So until AT&T Uverse comes to my area (and they have been terribly slow) I'll probably just hold off on this.

Your geometric visualization is that bad. :)
Specifically, in first picture, you look at the angle on the left between the left end and the front and you think "that's a 90 degree angle and I'm looking at it in perspective." But it's really a 120 degree angle and you're looking at it directly normal to the front face.

Yes.  I'm sure it'll only be a few weeks before an Xbox One gets behind the wheel of a car drunk and runs over a group of schoolkids on field trip.  That's in keeping with the rate of the downward spiral its been in.

If you're embarrassed by having a game console in your entertainment center, then don't have one.  Or just grow up, be an adult, and stop worrying about what others might or might not think.

Except that Pokemon one in TFA.  If you have that in your entertainment center, you should be embarrassed.

Another farking blue light... Do they think duct tape grows on trees? When watching a movie or gaming I do not want my electronics to scream "Look at me! I'm on!" at me. They are like somewhat children, they should be seen, not heard. With the caveat that I don't really want to notice either.

It's really a shame.  When I had the cash finally buy a top end system in college, the original XBox stole me with a few cool titles that I really enjoyed playing - Halo and Morrowind among them.  It was really impressive.  Never regretted my decision, and I happily jumped to the 360 without even a flicker of doubt.  I was one of lucky ones, and only had a single RROD (two total systems). Even after they guessed wrong in the Blu-ray vs. HDDVD competition, it wasn't a big deal.

I went into this one with loyalty, and ready to pay more if necessary.  A home-town discount, if you want to think of it that way.  It took Microsoft less than a month to torpedo it all.  Ten years of brand loyalty, gone.  I'll miss a few exclusive titles, but that's about it.  I don't know how they recover.  Unless there's a really, really large "silent majority" factor at play, this one appears over before it starts.

I'd buy the Sony PS4 but there's one really big problem.  Polyphony Digital.  I have never seen a more slovenly, pathetic excuse for a game as Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6 is looking like another wasted effort.

Microsoft has Turn 10, who have made nothing but good games with the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series.  But there's no way I'm buying an XBox One.

I'm farked either way, and there's nothing I can do about it.

Yeah, truth be told I was looking forward to the next-gen MS product as well, at least for a time.  Since I had a PS2 and a Gamecube I didn't buy an original Xbox until much later in its lifetime, but once I got it I could appreciate some of the exclusives it had and the way the system performed.  Also, it was hackable as hell.  I still have it running as a simple media center, although now that everyone encodes to x264 the poor little 733Mhz processor inside can't keep up.

I did buy a 360 not too long after launch though, just after Dead Rising came out.  That game, plus the fact that there was a first-party VGA output adapter for the console, convinced me that it would be worth my time.  Sure enough it was, and I've enjoyed many a game on that thing (especially Rock Band).  I was even shocked as hell about a year later when a standard OS update allowed it to play XviD AVIs from disc.  More and more updates came out like that, to the point where I was using the 360 for media center purposes as much as my XBMC Xbox.

Ironically, one of the things I was looking forward to with the Xbone was what media features it might have.  Even though I'm a hardcore gamer, I am still MS's apparent target audience... and yet nothing about that announcement grabbed me beyond "oh great, this thing is completely impractical with my crappy internet" and "mandatory kinect, another way my system can fail, lovely" and "no backwards compatibility even for PERIPHERALS? (as I stare at my Rock Band instruments)" and "yeah, sure, I really want more restrictions on what I can or cannot do with my games.  Jerks."

Everything about the console just makes me cringe, especially since with some tweaking it could have been a triumph of design and functionality.  Instead it's a non-starter and a complete turd of a system.  If I buy any console its going to be a PS4, but its not because anything the PS4 has about it particularly impresses me, not like the 360 did.

I have GTAIII on my phone. While it is a fun way to kill some time, it is certainly not a great gaming experience. I could see in the future having the tablet support a controller and using a TV as the screen, but then you are basicly PC gaming on a dumbed down OS. With no physical media option, so no used games, and all the DRM anyone could ever want.

Both are black boxes, at least the XBox one is designed square to fit with the square cable box, square stereo reciever etc.

RYSE, a game shown for the Xbox One, features a lot of combat which is composed mainly of quick timed button inputs, with a reward if you hit them correctly and no penalty if you do not.  The game continues on regardless.  I'd count that as dumbing down, even Angry Birds requires some player input.

I was at a local store, and they had a Kinect demo set up. Since I had never tried it, and was curious, I tried the river rafting game. It was kind of lame, but whatever, the demo wasted 5 minutes. Then when the game was over, the Xbox had 4 or 5 pictures of me mid-jump making goofy faces on the big screen TV on display.

It was actually intensely creepy, and I actually went and got the store manager and explained how uncomfortable I was being photographed and my picture being kept up on the display unit for everyone to see. He didn't seem to understand why someone might be bothered by that.

Why do you need to even be online if you are playing a single player game?  Or accessing content on the console that is local and that doesn't stream from the net?  For instance, if you don't have internet, you can't even use the bluray player on the XboxOne to play a bluray movie that you have bought/rented/borrowed?  Dafuq....

I DO understand what they are saying... Granted, as someone who chose a PS3 over other consoles, i'm probably biased, though to me, i AM proud of having this device in my entertainment stand.    People who don't know what it is, just figured its some type of high-tech device like a blu-rayer player (which it is that also), and it doesn't scream, "I'M A GAMER".      Its something i play games on, if i so choose, but otherwise, its just a cool thing sitting there.

One of those things exists only on the internet, so internet access is required to reach it.  Another of those things is a physical object which exists in your house that plays games which you physically possess, but arbitrarily and for no functional reason requires you to connect to the internet to do so.

Also, when my internet decides it's going to give me sub-56k speeds because f%$# you why not, I can still post to Fark.  The Xbone has confirmed that it requires 1.5m internet speeds on a single IP, which I am frequently unable to maintain out here in the sticks.

i owned a kinect for a year, had dance central/kinect adventures/kinect sports for the thing

it's a guilty pleasure, you play it once or twice, have fun but never really want to do it again, even compared to wiisports it has super short legs and wasn't really worth the cost, and most of the other games never made good use of it so it was never worth leaving plugged in (and certainly wasn't worth them screwing up netflix for 360)

kinect 2.0 being better really makes no difference to me for the same reason wii motion+ and sony's blue balls weren't worth crap - full body motion isn't something you can iterate on in a fun way
