I hope not!  Scampi is best when lightly seasoned with tears of despair.

My skrimps need the seasoning of at least a dozen tortured souls.

Not entirely true, there is a real effort to build Shrimp farms in Georgia, it will take another few years but so far results have been good.

Thirty years ago I worked in a restaurant where the scampi boxes said "Product of Bangladesh." And we were all a bit agog that Bangladeshis could export food. Wouldn't everyone along the production line eat the profits?

I should avoid farmed Asian shrimp because it's pumped full of antibiotics to keep the cesspools that they grow in from killing the things, but mostly I avoid them because it tastes so bland.  How do they manage to take all the flavor out of the shrimp just by growing it in a pond rather than the ocean?

Crewmannumber6: Scallops are still ok, right?

I once purchased some cheap Chinese scallops from Super H Mart.  They were as big as pencil erasers and tasted from bland to terrible.

Having been exposed to fresh, wild caught Alaskan striped shrimp.  I can tell you this: fark farm raised shrimp.

Reason for your visit?
The food.The Haute Cuisine.
Really? The food?
Dude, have you ever eaten south of this point? Ever driven down to Burlington? The big city? Ever try what passes for cuisine in that gastronomical wasteland?
Well, no.
Then you don't know what an actual hell America is. I'm going to Montreal to eat. Homard, Moulles, Crevettes! AND I WILL NOT BE STOPPED! Step aside, my man, I have moneyh to spend and an appetite!

Until we eat everything in the ocean and it's gone, never to return. Either we grow it ourselves or we won't have it. Seven billion people eat a lot of seafood.

I buy only locally caught wild gulf shrimp.  Asian farmed shrimp have too strong an iodine taste for me.  And the iodine is the least of what I'm worried about being in those things.

That's unfortunate. I shop there (in Carrollton) frequently because I really like their meats and produce and have been thinking I need to cook scallops more often. Were they the ones in a big bag in the freezer section or the ones wrapped like the fish and steaks?

We can grow them here in Houston in your back yard if you want to.

I have been trying to get the wife to let me raise some, but she'll have none of that.

That's one of the few things I miss about South coastal Texas.

The last shrimp I ate, I bought practically right off the boat. Still got some in the freezer.

I wouldn't mind having some slave labor to shell and gut those things, though.

Just tell her it is an ornamental Koi pond while you are building it, then put shrimp in it.

Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

They were frozen.  I'm not blaming Super H.  They were cheap.  That's what happens with cheap seafood.  I still shop there.

I have had good luck with Publix sea scallops.

Then tell your kids they have a chore after school!

That sounds easy enough.
