(CNN)   Today's overly histrionic news item brought to you by CNN. A Florida teenager jumps in the water and rides a 30 ft shark (whale shark), grabbing it by the nose (dorsal fin), risking being eaten alive (it's a filter feeder)   (cnn.com) divider line 20

I gave up on watching that kind of "news" long ago.

I wanted to see him get eaten by the bull sharks...

CNN, FOX, does any of your 'news' channels actually have 'news'.

I know, I know that they're not really news channels...

It's a gefilter fish?

They do mention that it's a filter feeder near the end.  It would still not be a good idea to get caught in any large filter feeder's mouth.

FTA:  Riding whale sharks is not illegal and Kreis says he would do it all over again if given the opportunity.

Does the species matter? I thought it was still illegal to harass wildlife.

Not sure why he says "nose", but otherwise the news anchors do say this is a whale shark, not vicious, and filter feeders, which is representing the situation appropriately because this is a massive animal; such animals do not need to want to eat you to cause serious injury because you get too close and annoy them such as by riding on them via dorsal fin.

CNN has jumped the whale shark.

Snorkeling or diving with a whale shark is on my bucket list and not in a glorified fish tank like the Georgia Aquarium.  Even in Belize and Honduras you aren't allowed to fark with the whale sharks, how is it that it's permitted here?

I don't know man, the whale shark hits plate for over 375k, and that teenager couldn't have been wearing much more than cloth.

Even seeing a whale shark in your life is against the odds... i have to give the guy props for riding one...

I thought the most histrionic news was about the Zimmerman case.
