So speeding is a felony now. Good, that seems totally reasonable.

I was going to agree with you, then I saw that the offending party was a motorcyclist, and almost certainly a lane-splitting douchebag.

Plus, it's not like he was doing 20-30 over. It was more than double the limit.

What he did was stupid and dangerous but a felony? Come on. Pull his licence for a year or something. Making speeding a felony at any point is gratuitous.

I agree on the pulling his license thing. But at that kind of speed, even if you're on a motorcycle, you could demolish a few cars if you hit them and everyone involved will die. It's probably the potential consequences of the crash at that speed than merely the speed that pushed it over the felony line.

exceeding the speed limit by more than DOUBLE, while weaving in an out of traffic, recklessly placed the driver's life at risk and the lives of anyone in a car he might hit going at that speed.  That's reckless endangerment, not simple speeding

Agred.

Plus who the hell is stupid enough to give up myriad rights just to go fast?

He not only doubled the speed limit, he more than doubled the MAXIMUM speed allowed in NH.

happens here relatively frequently. first nice day after a long winter and all the crotch-rockets are out burning up I-80, weaving in and out of traffic. last year, a guy was nabbed doing 150mph on his bike. his excuse? he was "late for work."

And if he crashed would he even have any organs in good enough shape to donate? Even if he was wearing the proper gear, which I'd bet against, it's worthless at that speed for a wreck. Such idiots. I'm glad he's being charged with a felony, because he has no right to put other lives in danger.

Heh, then upgraded to "can't go to work because prison".

At that speed, he could have crossed the state in another two minutes. Probably an air traffic controller trying to wake up after his shift.

The important part is if he was wearing a helmet. And a seatbelt with an airbag vest. All important questions.

Ah, here's an article that shows a pic of the rider. He's wearing an Icon vest/pullover, so he's already marked himself as a douchebag.

They let him go about 40 miles before stopping him at a toll plaza? Oh, what if he had an accident? Speedies' mommy would have had a fit! And if he had hit a van full of orphans and sent them straight to Jebus? Jebus would be like: "What are you orphans doing up here? I wasn't expecting you guys and I jest forgave a pedophile on his deathbed. Crap. He's right behind you guys. Cinch, kiddies, cinch them buttocks. What do you mean? 'there wasn't a cop?' I put one in New Hampton!"

Nothing free about that road.  Here on the east coast, we just call them highways, as in Interstate Highway.  More often than not, there's gonna be a damn toll on it anyway.

I know in Ontario they can get you for street racing over 150 KPH. I was told they can seize your car at that point but I never looked into it.

It'd seem you wouldn't have to punish the guy for going that fast.  At some point the punishment would work itself out. On the flipside, if you already know what's going on and you can go 150 mph, you should be fined and imprisoned for being caught.

Speaking as a former Granite State-r, about 90%+ of all NH freeway coverage is prime deer/moose/god-knows-what country. And, trees line most of the freeways to the point you can't see anything coming until it's already crossing the road.

Point is, you're a special dumbf*ck to be speeding to that extent in any vehicle in Northern New England.

2013-06-17 01:09:31 PM
Here in California, anything over 100 MPH, they can cuff you and stuff you, and impound the vehicle. So you can't be an idiot like that. Because you will get caught, and it will be expensive. These laws were caused by street racers.

The trouble is, on any 600CC or larger sport bike these days, drop down a couple of gears and pass a group of two or three slow moving cars on back road, you'll be going 100 MPH before you realize it. Without even meaning to. Sure, you grab your brakes and slow down, but there was that moment, and that's right when a cop would come around the next corner and clock you with his instant on radar. Be careful out there.

That is fast and dangerous on public roads. Stop at the track sometime sir.

The machines built in the past few years offer speeds like this and they are very stable at those speeds.

It's a rush, like sky diving for hours.
