They could probably do The Shadow and Dick Tracy some justice.

Stay away from The Phantom though.

I just remembered all three of those were made into live-action films. I want to rewatch them now.

Dick Tracy is orange in the strip

Part of The Shadow's psychic disguise is the hooked nose and slanted eyes

No it wouldn't

What made Flash Gordon so great was that the special effects were so spectacularly lame and Queen did the soundtrack.

Probably the greatest movie ever made in that respect.

Pixar is overrated. everything off earth was stupid in Wall E. the middle of Up was pointless. Brave is turrible. good concepts, but that's all you get with some of their movies.

I showed this to my wife, who is an artist and designer.

Her response, "That's cool, but what's wrong with the chick in the Flash Gordon picture?"

I look again.. HOLY HELL. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CHICK IN THE FLASH GORDON PICTURE? It's like Ming the Merciless cut her off at the boobs and stitched her back together backwards.

I don't want a remake, but I'd like a remastered letterbox DVD or blu ray of Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, because that's another sci fi cheesefest that just cracks me up whenever I see it.

Can we get Brad Bird to do an Incredibles sequel first?  I mean, I don't think he has anything else to do... Let me go check IMDB....

"Tomorrowland is an upcoming science fiction film directed, co-written, and produced by Brad Bird and produced and co-written by Damon Lindelof.[2][3] It stars George Clooney, with Hugh Laurie as the primary villain.[4] "

...

Damnit!

/2015 then?

Also, I am excited about taking my three year old to Monsters University.  I took him to Wreck-It-Ralph last year, but he had just turned three and I had to keep him from wandering off with snacks, hopefully he will be more attentive this time.

At least you're not taking him to rated PG and R movies. Seriously people, did you really think your 4 year old daughter would enjoy Saw?!?!?!?

Yeah that is some awesome cheesy goodness havent seen that movie in like 15 years.

I still remember SyFy's stab at Flash Gordon. What an abortion that was. I wanted it to have the cheesy greatness of the movie but it was just lame.

I take him on Sunday Afternoon.  Matinee prices, and usually just other families with kids, so i don't feel like I am ruining anybodies experience if he decides to get agitated (which I would take him out of the theater anyway).

But yeah, when the King Kong Peter Jackson remake came out in theaters, I took my wife (then fiance) to an 8 or 9 pm showing on a Saturday.  Right behind us was a damn family unit (like, 2-3 kids) and one of the kids (who was probably 4 or 5) got right up next to my ear and screamed "where is the monkey?!"

I turned and gave the father a death stare....the left shortly after that.  Who in the hell takes their 5 year old to a PG-13 movie on a Saturday night?!

Much as cheesy overacting can be fun, my favorite Flash Gordon is still the one they used to show on Saturday mornings back around 1980 or so.  Lots of stock footage and repetition, like everything back then, but what they had looked great.

Yeah, I saw that.  I figured that the awesomeness of Hugh Laurie hamming it up as the villian, plus 50% writing and production, and 100% direction, by Bird, would offset or at least "reign in" Lindelof.

then again, it wasn't a dreadful piece of overrated Pixar bathos. it was just an animated movie, not teh bestest movie of all tiem evar like Wall E.

What makes Pixar good and sets it apart from Disney is that they have original ideas for stories. They don't rip off 300-year-old fairy tales and copyright them in perpetuity, nor do they do straight-to-video sequels of their films like Cinderella IV: Cinderella Gets Anorexia Nervosa With The Olsen Twins. They also don't do remakes, as far as I know.

Doing sequels of Toy Story was wandering into dangerous territory, and the whole sequel thing led to *shudder* Cars 2. I hope they stick to original ideas. They're good at that.

2013-06-17 04:37:26 PM

yeah, but the panda didn't cram in Hello Dolly, or steal from Charlie Chaplin.

if the fat panda did more blatant copies of Bruce Lee moves, maybe he'd have had a better shot.

/ let's give number five, err ah, Wally the Apple startup noise! brilliant!
