when his approval rating goes up, then it's the Heroes in congress that are making him look good.  when his numbers go down, he's inept at his job.

For that matter, I doubt this actually matters to the GOP either. It's just the latest attempt to drag Obama down into scandal.

Which isn't to say that this wiretapping bullshiat shouldnt go away. It's just that the republicans were the ones who wanted it in the first place.

Why should he? 2014 will leave him with a republican house and maybe a Senate. May as well take some vacations and get some golfing in, because nothing will happen in Congress for the rest of his term. Maybe some Commander in Chief action, but not much else.

If he wants to take a page out of the GOP playbook he can ramp up action against Syria. Other options include: killing Bin Laden again, taking a vacation to the moon, Giulianize (assassinate the homeless so he can say the number of homeless went down) or maybe use his orbital laser cannon to cut Florida off the mainland.

don't be too sure. these guys are notorious long-gamers. i'm sure they're planning on leveraging the obstruction thing hard in 2014, not to mention background checks and immigration. remember - the only reason the GOP holds the house is by gerrymandering - there were actually more votes cast for democrats than for republicans in the 2012 house elections.

Right.

I'll believe that when I see the incumbent reelection rate fall below 30%.  Hell, at this point I would even take below 60%.

Anyone who can enact term limits would be a national hero.

This partisan poll watching is really depressing to someone like me who actually cares about ISSUES.

Like privacy. I don't care who's in office, I still BELIEVE in the FOURTH AMENDMENT.  It's illegal to open US mail, why isn't it illegal to open US email?

The people have to make their government CARE about issues.
Otherwise, they'll play you like a cheap guitar at a frat house.

Because mail goes through a government service that has been protected since the founding of the country. Email goes through a private corporation that has no protections.

Because most of it was never sealed in the first place. Un-encrypted email has always been 'as private as a postcard', and yet years after the invention of PGP and S/MIME it's still the type that almost everyone uses.

Well, except that so far the NSA thing hasn't really been all that it was initially cracked up to be.  In fact, the revelations so far seem to merely have confirmed what we already knew.  The real scandal here is what is legal, not that the administration is doing anything illegal.  Oh, and the realization of how much spying is being done by private entities.

And if you record the data on the outside of a metric shiat-ton of envelopes coming from the same person, you can get a ridiculously detailed picture of that person.

Then I say, let Google/Yahoo/Government provide FREE PRIVATE email.
I'd love to use an easily accessible private communications format.  But the corporations that offer services always go for the least privacy so they can data-mine (as Google does with ad-words).  These companies make billions of dollars, pay almost no taxes, and are undermining our basic rights.  WTF?!

I am against the government spying on it's citizens.

I'm assuming that NSA rolls up to the DOJ.  DOJ is headed by Holder, who is in the president's cabinet.

The president has said the he supports this activity.

If you're going to blame someone, wouldn't it be the guy that's running the shop?

This.  Last I checked, Lindsey Graham was encouraging the NSA to "keep doing what you're doing" or something to that effect.
