DrunkWithImpotence: Blessings are in a category of things called "sacramentals". They are supposed to remind you of God's power and make you more receptive to divine grace. It's a way of focusing the mind towards the divine aspect of otherwise mundane things. Sort of like the Catholic habit of dipping a finger in Holy Water when entering a church or chapel.

Blessings do not however, confer any magic powers on an object. A blessed horse is not going to win a race any more often than a heathen one. (Oh, and useless note.. to keep people from being all superstitious about the magic powers bit, you are not supposed to sell a 'blessed object" as such. No extra points on the resale value of those bikes cause they are "Papably Good".)

IOW, a "heavenly Oscar".

Man, the 'all Catholics are evil child rapers' crowd is out in force today.

Glad to see both sides demonize their opponents equally.

I kinda like this pope.  Science...  and now bikes?  Wish he was on board with gay rights, but I guess that's too much to hope for since we're talking about the Catholic church after all.

/just got a bike.  Not a Harley - not sayin' if that was a choice or just because I can't afford one.  I try to get along with both sides of the bike crowd.

Perhaps I should have also mentioned that I don't pay a whole heck of a lot of attention to the church - I've only heard bits and pieces about the Pope.  There are probably lots of things I wouldn't agree with if I was paying attention so don't judge me on that!

From another article: "The celebrations were dampened by an accident on Saturday involving two cars and six bikes that left eight bikers injured, one seriously. "

He gave a sermon or whatever they're called bout 2 or 3 weeks ago in which he proclaimed, essentially, that athiests aren't bad people. And they're capable of doing good just as much as Catholics do.

The Vatican released a statement the next day, obviously having missed the point, that 'athiests still go to hell".

I'd be willing to bet that the only time that has been more than a few blocks from home is on the back of a trailer.

Otherwise known as the Harley Owners Group.

Considering a Harley costs as much as an SUV, the demographics of the Harley owners isn't what it was in the 70's.

I'm just gonna leave this here:

Interestingly enough... I also have an SUV... and I'm into the bike and SUV almost the exact same amount. Are you a wizard?

Yeah, that looks stupid and obnoxious.

Awww... Thank you.

I'm thinking about getting a big flag I can mount to the fender that says, "Hey! Look at me!"

If God is good, why would he send "good people"to hell on a technicality?

Most of the stuff I hear about this pope is pretty cool. I like the whole "use resources for charity rather than fancy church stuff" agenda too!
