There was a recent study by AAA that found that even using hands-free technology is enough of a distraction to make people drive measurably worse.  And people using voice-recognition to control their phones or vehicles do just as poorly as those who take their eyes off the road to accomplish the same task.

Half the time some idiot posts an image of a clapping Darwin when the deceased already has offspring (that are mentioned in TFA).

Could this be used as an argument for a ban on car-pooling?

I find that I talk to people that I'm in a car with and they to me.  Is that not also a distraction for the driver?

Take 10 internets and 2 cookies.

I appreciate people who take their driving seriously and not just something they do while 'multitasking'.

studies i've seen say that kids are the number 1 distraction in cars.  so let's ban kids from cars.

Well, what makes that so great is then you will be perfectly within your rights to do whatever you want to the driver when they cause an accident.  For example ramming their phone down their throat for starters.

I'm pretty sure the word "maul" specifically means to be killed by an animal. It's like drowned or electrocuted. You are mauled if you die. This man was simply attacked by a bear.

It's because we all expected to have the cars driving us by now.

This is horrible but I laughed at this line from TFA:

"How Bothe plans to carry out that mission isn't clear just yet. He says that he wants to finish college, although doctors admit that his brain injuries will make that a challenge. "

/Many Bothe's crashed to bring us this information?

You must have missed the bolded text. Here it is, again. Nothing about using voice-recognition to control vehicles.

They need to treat it like a DUI with license suspensions and jail time and large fines since it's been proven to be as bad if not worse.

2 years ago I was rear-ended (not badly) at a stoplight. I was looking in the rearview mirror & saw her coming too fast, then I saw the front end dive as she braked, but it was too late. She got out of her car still texting & claimed she didn't see me until it was too late. In the middle of a sunny day.
I didn't talk to her, just waited for the cops to show up & told the cop I couldn't swear she was texting since I didn't see it, but he might want to check her phone.

Stop being so pedantic.  It's about voice-recognition for phone, radio, etc. integrated into the vehicle, not the steering wheel or accelerator pedal.

And you don't even have to be driving for texting to be dangerous. Saw a woman, furiously texting away on her phone, walk into an intersection and get hit by a delivery truck.

I've got one of those too.  I assume people who do that were strictly trained as kids to look at a person when they have something to say, but I've actually had to point at the road and tell him to "look that way!".

Kind of tense, given that this guy's older than me, but come on.
