Benevolent Misanthrope:  My mistake.

No problem.   The article does try to make it sound like this was stolen from "The Police" rather than from "The clubhouse used by off-duty cops and retirees".

Benevolent Misanthrope: A Terrible Human: The fark is a police department doing with a meat smoker worth that much?   That was my first question.  The answer is, "Because FARK the citizens, that's how."

Attention Dallas: 10,000 of your dollars were spent on a custom BBQ pit.  Just remember that when you fire up your $40 Home Depot special, because you can't afford a nice grill.

The Dallas Police Association is not Dallas PD, it's a private organization, Texas Charter Number 152033.

That $10K came from membership dues paid by active and retired police officers, not tax dollars.

Awesome!

Stupid?  Yes, of course-- but awesome just the same.

I wouldn't be hugely surprised if that smoker was originally paid for with "drug money" that was seized by the police without any sort of charge or conviction.

Of course they recovered the smoker. It belonged to the police, they can't be bothered to recover my laptop even when I tell them what address it is at.

Frazier said the truck is ostensibly for a lawn service owned by a known drug dealer. "But it's just a front," he said. "They don't cut grass. They use the truck to commit thefts and burglaries."

Which wasn't a problem until your smoker was stolen.
