Is my "police state" sensors going off again?

First off, Texas.  Secondly, the police.  Put them together and nothing good can happen.

Damn right she wants more. What good is an apology from a corrupt police department that doesn't obey the law, who wouldn't mean it anyway? I hope she sues and wins millions.

Now, now...
With the inordinately high volume of servin' and protectin' that's going on, a few mistakes can reasonably be expected.

Agreed. The PD abused their authority and expect the victim to disregard her rights. Now if cops had to carry their own malpractice insurance (as opposed to letting taxpayers foot the bill) would this have happened?

2013-06-16 06:16:13 PM
I'm sure there's more to the story.  As the officers will testify, she probably had around $62,420 worth of marijuana residue on her and/or she attacked them with a assault rifles.

2013-06-16 06:18:15 PM
Uh, yeah, 2 things that have me wondering here.

A: just wtf did an 11 year old do that cops showed up, in force, at his home to arrest him rather than on the spot wherever the mystery crime took place

B: A woman quoting her constitutional rights to cops and being arrested, in texas, where stand your ground laws are srs bzns.   Anybody want to take bets that the popo here were white and the woman was either black or hispanic?

C: regardless of those two issues, this woman , in all fairness, should wind up owning that police precinct, where in all reality she's going to be lucky if she comes out of it with a coupon for half off a big mac.

Let's be honest here, the only reason that corrupt cops pull the brutally silly shiat they pull is because they know that the worst they're likely to recieve is 2 weeks "paid leave" or something similar.

Even if she didn't want a dime, they can't make her whole. She has a farking booking number. That excludes you from quite a bit in employment. And as she pointed out, people can google her name and find a booking for her.

I don't particularly think anyone should win a lawsuit lotto over this, especially as the money usually comes out of city funds farking the public...but people DO need to lose their farking jobs and pensions over this shiat. And abuse under the color of authority should be a far far more serious crime than it is. Police officers have special powers to do their job, abuse of those powers should result in the wrath of the gods coming full brunt upon 'em.

Actually, they can (and should) expunge the arrest which completely removes everything, any fingerprints, booking record, mugshot, anything.  Problem is, as the lady mentioned, there are so many messed up websites that grab all this info the moment someone is arrested and the put it up then want you to pay them to remove it.  Cause, you know, websites like fark love looking at mugshots of people.

Start disrespecting the 4th amendment at the top and it trickles down throughout society.  I've heard a disturbing amount of people being arrested these days for the crime of "resisting arrest".  We need to start making examples of these cops and nip this trend in the bud.

personally, i would love for to get the law enforcement officer's (cops) pension to be forcibly transferred to her.  cop roaylly screws up and violates rights, they lose their full pension to the victim.

These days, it might be wise to wire up your home to have hidden cameras record everything from outside the front door to the bathroom. Have the video data stored online and at an off-site physical storage as well. To make it legal, put up a notice that people on the property are under surveillance. Ah, yes -- make sure you set up fake cameras as well for the police to destroy (they've done so in the past).

But it's the same citizenry that gets screwed over that allowed this to happen. It's not like this happens in a vacuum. It comes from always trying to be tougher on crime. If they don't want the city's insurance premium to increase due to lawsuits, elect a sheriff who runs on a platform of civil rights and responsibility to the taxpayer.

Great ideas. I remember a few years ago, Philadelphia police were called to a robbery at a Mom and Pop type store.  One of the first things the cops did was damage the in-store video cameras and take the recordings as evidence. The amount of store losses went up very highly after that.  But what Philly's finest did not realize was the video was being recorded at the store owner's offsite computer.

Chief Ricky Ricardo was quoted as saying "Louie, you've got some 'splaining to do".

Indolent : Are you serious??? There's a Warehouse 13 marathon right now?

They just started what, their fourth season? Meh, not impressed.

Wake me up when they do a full Stargate SG-1 Marathon.

// there are actually episodes of SG-1 that I missed, back in the days before DVRs were prevalent and bittorrent didn't really exist yet.

// when warehouse 13 started, OTOH, I was on my second DVR (bought after the digital broadcast switch) which had two tuners, the only way I would miss an episode is if the cable or power went out (which did happen on two occasions), BUT, bittorrent came to the rescue.

// would also accept a farscape marathon in HD (since I saw most of it in SD on a 33" tv).

// I don't need a Babylon 5 marathon since I saw that from netflix and HD doesn't do the CGI any justice. Would be nice if someone (studio or fans) went back and remastered all of those CGI screens. Yeah yeah, the original 3d models were lost IIRC, but people have remade those things tons of times for use in video game mods.

Always fun watching partisan idiots yell about Arizona or Texas and their "police states" while NYC continues to push stop and frisk a minority. Hell, NY just decided to push for making annoying or disturbing a cop a felony.
