Senseless_drivel: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Clearly a failure to regulate the militia.

Its time to repeal the second amendment and put something more relavent in its place. It is, after all, an amendment to our Constitution which is supposed to be a living document.

How about this: The right of the people, both individually and collectively, to defend themselves with deadly force against illegal use of deadly force, shall not be infringed by any level of government, federal, state or local.

Gun fans: be warned that when things like this happen, people are going to say mean things and hurt your little feelings. But at the end of the day nothing is going to change and you're going to keep your death toys.

There have been a variety of controversies about "the calling out of the militia", like, who has the authority to do the calling. What isn't, and has never been, controversial, is for what purpose it would be done: to suppress insurrections and repel invasions. That's what the Constitutional authority specifically delineates, that's what the founders had in mind. All of your rebel fantasies about the founders planting the seeds to have armed patriots overthrow the entire framework of powers they crafted themselves is complete mental masturbation.

farkmedown: Any preservation of "militia" must take into account that the people need protection _from_ the government (see Jefferson ad nauseum).

Oh, joy. Another in the parade of high-minded firearm enthusiasts who choose to ignore the fact that what the founders enshrined in the Constitution as a purpose of the militia was to assemble *against* just the kind of crackpot rebels that they fancy the founders having foreseen to encourage.

My first thought is that the government could unjustly redefine illegal but that's not the only problem I have with it. WTF are all these unregulated people doing with guns? Is the Amendment intentionally an unenforceable oxymoron? I think not.

Something along the lines of requiring that bearing said arms needs to be 'in direct support of the well regulated militia (not the right to concealed carry on trips to McDonald's, Starbucks, etc. The well regulated militia needs to be real not some fantasy. I, for example, am over 45 and, therefore, no eligible to be a member of the legal definition of a milita so why should I be allowed to walk the streets with a gun), home defense (during the presence of the clear and imminent threat of danger) or for regulated sport' appropriate.

There out to be a contest between Chicago, Detroit, and Oakland as to the most murders and shooting per day over a year. The winners mayor enlists in the Army and gets sent over to Afghanistan.

If they had better gun control there'd be 37 fewer gangbangers today instead of only 7 because they'd shoot more accurately.

Help me read that.  Does it say "the right of the States to form a militia"  or does it say, "The right of the people to keep and bear arms"?

That thick heavy pizza is like eating a loaf of bread.  Better to have a thin crust with a higher toppings to crust ratio.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is a clause dependent on them being part of a well-regulated militia, which is recognized as vital to keeping the United States from being annexed by another country.  In other words:  the Federal government is permitted by its citizens to keep a standing army to defend the nation, and in order to do so the members of that army must be allowed to have weapons.

It's important for Libs to constantly point out that Obama is black.  Nobody cares, nobody else mentions it, and it has nothing to do with anything.  But if you bring that up, you can avoid discussing the myriad failed policies.

"Gun control doesn't work?  Well the President is black!"
"Keynsian economics doesn't work?  Well the President is black!"
"Foreign policy is an incoherent muddle?  Well the President is black!"

If you Libs could treat a black man just the same as a white, you wouldn't even have nominated him for re-election.

But the deep dish thing ain't a pizza you can get outside of the windy city. If it were that good, it would be international.
