No Governor?  I mean, I guess keeping your zombified daughter locked up in hopes of a cure instead of giving her a mercy kill is a reason to be a good dad.

Not sure if there's a rhyme or reason to the list, but Arlo Givens should have been near the top.

Al Bundy. Sure he said he didn't care about his family, but when the chips were down he always came through for them.

/Clay Morrow from Sons of Anarchy should have made the list, or does he not count since he's a step father?

Don Draper's awesome/terribleness is almost quantum and nature, existing in both states at once.  He is both the coolest man in the world and a pitiful, emotionally abusive alcoholic and sex addict, a superposition of epic win and epic fail. Don is just more than our puny human minds can comprehend.

As flawed as that character was, he was not an awful father.  Reading over the entries for some, Archie is dad of the year in comparison.  I also take umbrage with including Al Bundy as a worst father.  He cared for his kids and his wife when it mattered, he didn't share feeling often though.

They fail for not including Ray from Everybody Loves Raymond.

I'll give you about half of that, but he was a worse father than some of the entries, as well.  (You mentioned Bundy.  If Bundy makes the list, Bunker should make the list.)

I'll take back massive and just say fail, how's that?

I came here to say the same thing about Al. He worked in a job he hated just so his family could have a roof over their heads. He complained but he still went in, day after day.

How is Tywin Lannister a bad dad?  He's rebuilding his family's reputation, got his daughter to be queen, his grandson king.

As a dad, the worst you could say about Tywin is how he treats Tyrion.  And how bad is that?  He supports him, he gets him a job.  He kept Tyrion around long enough for him to appear in the books/show.

I'm guessing the reason we don't see a lot of people like Tyrion in the GoT world is not because of superior pre-natal care.  I'm also guessing the reason most children born with Tyrion's condition in the GoT world don't end up in a sack at the bottom of a river is only because most families can't spare the sack.

OK, he's not warm and cuddly.   But if Tywin was a bad dad, Tyrion wouldn't even be around to bare to brunt of his disappointment.

Fail is ok I guess.  I also said Al Bundy doesn't deserve to be on the list either, and even offered a suitable replacement.  And in some ways, Archie Bunker was a better father than Al Bundy.  He was a provider, raised his daughter (and eventually Stephanie) in a typical good home, supported his daughter even when he didn't like her choices (marrying Meathead, etc.), and was even a father figure to said Meathead son-in-law.  What makes him an awful father in your view?

For Al, Sharkster said it best:

I came here to say the same thing about Al. He worked in a job he hated just so his family could have a roof over their heads. He complained but he still went in, day after day.

I've been defending Al Bundy for years.

He works a soul-crushing, meaningless job to support his nagging wife and useless kids. He drives a terrible car and lives in a house that lowers property values in the neighborhood. Yet at the end of the day, Al Bundy is not only not the worst TV dad, he is one of the best. He has turned down opportunities to cheat on Peg and leave the family, because despite his grumbling, he truly loves them. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his family, and they all have his back when he needs it. They will move heaven and the earth for each other, and that is all because he did a great job raising them.

I always wondered how he could afford such a large house while being the sole breadwinner who sells shoes.

The WTF moment is that they added Mike Brady to the list but hey at least they added Peter Griffen. You can replace Mike Brady with Stan Smith from "American Dad".

There was also that little thing with Tysha, Tyrion's first wife.  Oh and if your twin children are having sex and having children together I'd say it's fair to assume you screwed up as a parent somewhere along the way.

They've only mentioned in passing that Tyrion has already been married. When you hear what Tywin did to the first wife you'll crap yourself. (And I don't get why the show is waiting so long to bring this up -- IIRC, most of it was hashed out in Book 1).

Well, he was an ignorant, misogynist, racist bigot (redundant?), but I suppose that was as much being a product of his time as anything else.  I'm in my mid-thirties, so All In the Family was before my time, but I've seen enough to appreciate it, and my (non-foiled) hat's off to Carroll O'Connor, may he rest, et. al. for bringing a great show that addressed the issues of the day in what I understand were contentious times.  I'm also not familiar with roughly 4/5 of the characters on the list, but my thing was more that they left Archie off of a list that included Frank Costanza, the aforementioned Al Bundy, Homer Simpson/Peter Griffin (not sure how cartoon characters compare, here) and, albeit tongue-in-cheek, Mike Brady(?).

One way or the other, I think we can all agree that Al doesn't belong on the list, and if Al's off, I'll not argue that Archie should be on.

I may've missed the obvious in that we're talking strictly parenting here, and to that point your argument is more than valid, and I applaud the Ray suggestion.  Perhaps a better person, although everything's debatable, but without a doubt a man sorely lacking in the fatherhood skills department.

Also, pretty much everything I post, like all things fark, is recommended to be taken with a grain of salt, and sorry if tl;dr.

Yeah, but wasn't his first wife Jamie's doing?  It's been a while since I read the book.  If it was Tywin, then he was a very bad dad that day.  I hope he got the ugliest tie in the store that Father's Day.

And the incest, first, they're royalty.  They're only supposed to mess around with other royalty.  That almost means incest by definition.  Either there's no other royalty around, so you keep it in the family, or you've been passing siblings back and forth amongst the available families until even the royals that aren't "family", are family.  (see: Europe.)

Second, they're good looking.  No one wants to think about ugly people doing the nasty, related or not.
