I've tried to watch True Blood twice now, and I couldn't make it through the opening credits either time.

the opening credits are the best part of the show. seriously.

Ha, True Blood is on HBO while Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is on HBO2. The irony is palpable.

2013-06-16 10:11:59 AM
As the boyfriend of a woman who is highly responsive to true blood, just shutup and show it. And its fathers day....now I'm a little afraid.

2013-06-16 10:12:39 AM
I muddled through the first and second seasons and was entertained, but never finished the third. It went so ridiculously over the top that even the hottest, scantily-clad red head in the world couldn't keep me from yelling at the television. It was pretty dumb out of the gate, but Jeebus, it went full retard by season three.

2013-06-16 10:14:29 AM
I also watched the first couple of seasons, but that shiat went pants-on-head fast.

2013-06-16 10:21:55 AM
I thought sex was the only reason anyone started watching True Blood.

2013-06-16 10:22:19 AM
So I watched an episode of this at my neighbors house last night. There was this fairy,I think, giving birth in a bar and this dude was a fly and exploded this woman or some shiat. What the fark did I watch?

2013-06-16 10:26:50 AM
Strangely enough the show is still less ridiculous than the books.

2013-06-16 10:31:16 AM
I do agree with the writer in TFA about the over-abundance of characters and storylines. Why does Andy Bellefleur have his own storylines? For fark sake..
They could seriously trim about 6 storylines off the show, or at least put them in the background where they belong (Arlene/Terry, Andy/Holly, Alcide/Wolves, Pam/Tara, etc.)  and not lose anything, really.

-  I like the Faerie plot device for the exposition it brings, but I do not really care about their civil war between the seelie and unseelie fae. As a spinoff or related show/miniseries it would be a fun idea.
-  Then again, if you meet a woman that introduces herself as "Mab", you RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION RIGHT NOW. (Read Shakespeare much?!). Or for that matter, Puck, Oberon, or Titania...
-  The "Billith as Big Bad" thing is not going to last long, considering that Warlow is on his way to claim his prize.
-  T&A are a means to an end. Aesthetically, yes; this is a very attractive show. But, T&A only goes so far.  Game of Thrones uses the T&A to progress a bit of the story. A good deal of exposition is done during the nude scenes.
-  The Vampire Authority was better as a nebulous organization, it did not need to be defined as one dude and 6 underlings. The scenery chewing by Chris Meloni was worth the price of admission.
-  Lastly, I like the show because it realizes how absolutely absurd it is, and does not take itself too seriously. To borrow / modify Peter Griffin's line, it "does not insist upon itself".

People still watch movies / shows for nudity? In this day and age? Really?

You guys have teh nets, right?

As far as I can tell, the season's first episode of an HBO show tends to dance on the border of soft-core (certainly Rome and True Blood). It bores me. Cookie-cutter "sex" scenes might have caught my interest when I was a teen, but not any more. Unless HBO goes full 4chan with the sex, I'd rather they focused on the story (clothing optional, though).

If sex is the ONLY reason for watching a show, you've clearly never heard of the Internet.

There are much easier ways to consume porn than sitting thru a show about supernatural creatures that are only generally only boning for a small percentage of any given episode (and sometimes not at all).

I watch the show (though I fully admit it's ridiculous), and I'm certainly not going to complain about seeing an abundance of naked Eric (some of the others are ok too), but I highly doubt that's the only reason why anyone watches.

They are enjoyable enough for what they are but they are eye rollingly ridiculous in some parts. Their saving grace is being slightly better written than twilight.

Methinks she has a no nudity clause, like the one Kristen Bell has on "House of Lies". Which is too bad, on both accounts.

Spoiler alert: just 59 seconds into Sunday's sixth-season premiere ofTrue Blood, you'll see the first flash of ass. (It's Bill's, it's brief, and it's covered in gory plasma.)

Meh...

Wait 19 minutes and there's a handful of female werewolves standing full-frontal naked after turning back into humans.

Eh...

If you endure 36 minutes of the season opener, you'll be rewarded with a threesome between a very naked Alcide (Joe Manganiello)....

I'M IN... my bunk...

This is the most important thing people need to realize in order to watch and enjoy True Blood. It's not a serious show. It's not high drama. Complaining that True Blood makes no sense is like complaining that professional wrestling isn't real. And, just like with pro wrestling, it may not be your cup of tea. It is what it is.

It had nothing to do with the show. It's like someone walking into a convenience store that has signs up advertising visa and MasterCard, placing their hands on a change mat that advertises visa and MasterCard and asking, "do you take cards?".

Observe and pay attention, that's my point. There are those that can and those that cannot.

It's too bad because I thought the premise was great and some of the promo blurbs they had before the show aired were great. They dealt a lot with societal issues and discrimination now that vampires were a part of society.

You don't need to be a fanboy to be able to pay attention and understand what is going on in front of you. It isn't like Game of Thrones is super complicated or has much hidden symbolism.

It's a pleasantly female-oriented show with all the male eye-candy.  It's like they took Twilight and made it more interesting and flashy with more explosions and sex and stuff.

The show is full of butterfaces, taut fat-free bodies and redneck hick faces (except Alexander Skarsgard... drool...).

Lately the plot has gotten overly convoluted and stupid though.  Too many random plotlines and chaotic short scenes.  I like the show better when they focus on character development, not contrived vampire-society-politics.  Like how people feel when they turn into a vampire, and how their life changes.  I wish Sookie would grow into her fairie powers more.  Why do they always do that?  Make protagonists be all ambivalent about their superpowers.  If I had superpowers I'd be ecstatic.  I'm really tired of the "poor me, I have superpowers, baaaaw," trope.

And The actor who plays Tara's flamboyantly gay cousin is great, he really steals the show sometimes.

True Blood is utter trash but I've seen every episode and can't wait for tonight.  Pam and Tara '13.

Most of the series has been very enjoyable, but I knew immediately they jumped the shark when I saw the latest series finale.  You don't have a "death" like that for such a critical character.

Dion Fortune: The show is full of butterfaces, taut fat-free bodies and redneck hick faces (except Alexander Skarsgard... drool...).

Okay, I'll agree there are some butter faces on there, but Eric, Alcide, Jessica, and Jason are pretty gorgeous.  (only listing main characters and not all the side people because that would be ridiculous).  Some of the others are not too bad like Sam and Pam.

Basically, as a whole the guys are better looking than the women on the show which is quite rare, but greatly appreciated by the female audience.  I think if Sookie had a better looking face people probably wouldn't notice so much.  She is supposed to be really hot (according to the books and I suppose show), and while Anna Paquin has a nice body and can look attractive facially in some shots, she is quite odd looking.
