The wife's parents just had their 50th wedding anniversary. On a whim, the wife's sister contacted a number of famous/prominent people asking if they'd wish them a happy anniversary. None of us expected much from it, as the people were, well, fairly up there - head coaches from their alma mater (Michigan), ex-presidents, a few CEOs of huge companies, etc... "What the heck" we thought - it's worth a shot...

They were surprised when they got long and very nice handwritten letters from two presidents - the 41st and 43rd.

Heartwarming really... cheers

So you'd prefer Bush, McCain, Romney? The people who wish for those 3 aren't even smart enough to be considered a village idiot.

Yeah, at least Republicans could actually govern back then. They "accomplished" terrible things for the country, but hey, at least they weren't a bunch of nihilistic Teabaggers like they are today.

I don't know why this headline made me laugh. Perhaps it's because I picture George W. Bush as he was portrayed in that episode of Family Guy (You know, the one where he's in the treehouse after Katrina) sitting on an airplane reading "My Pet Goat".

For all the horrible military and economic shiat he put the country through, he wasn't a xenophobe against Latino and Arab Americans. American Muslims (both Arab and non-Arab) voted for Bush over Gore. It wasn't until the GOP let its racist crazies run wild that they moved to the Democratic side. Now they're in charge of the Republican Party--we're all standing room only to Boehner's limp impotence on the Immigration issue.
