"Auf den Garten" actually makes sense in German.

You could read that as an imperative: "Open the garden!" ("Auf" = "Auf(machen)" = "to open" or rather "to make open")
Or use it as a fragment in a sentence, meaning "towards the garden".

At first I though "on top of the garden", but that would require a different case, i.e. "auf dem Garten"
