Is John Ratzenberger too busy spouting derp to play a part?

In the show, tentatively entitledKirstie, Alley plays Madison Banks

Has that ever happened before?  A star gets the show named after him or her and they play a character with a different name?

I'm sure it's happened lots of times. The first one that comes to mind is The BIll Cosby Show, in which loveable Bill played a guy named Chet Kincaid.

How about shows that have a First Name Only title that is the name of the star?

"Rhea" was a very short-lived sitcom starring Rhea Perlman as a character named Rhea.
"Ellen"  was a successful sitcom starring Ellen DeGeneres as a character named Ellen.

I should have been more specific.  Are there any One Name Titled fictional shows where that One Name is the first name of the star and that star's character is not that same name?

It's the same theory as restaurants you see in New Jersey.
They don't really tell you the name of the restaurant, but they give you the menu on the awnings.

I always get a kick when a person brings up character names to the actors on certain projects.
A lot with Tony Danza's career has his first name as his real first name. Starting with Taxi then with is other long running series "Who's The Boss?" was he that punch-drunk after his boxing career that a lot of writers and directors insisted to do that ? So, he could be up the cues easier?

As an adolescent Cheers fan, I was a fan of both Diane and Rebecca. Both had their good points; namely that I think I tried to fap to both of them, We didn't have on-demand porn in those days, kids, so we used our imaginations. Or the Macy's Sears catalog And I can't remember if my penis was working at full-charge when Diane was still on the show. If it was, or was close, I definitely tried.

Diane had that tight little body and doe eyes. Rebecca had, eh, 'dem titties, smoky eyes, and very unique voice. Advantage: Rebecca. But Diane's character was more interesting, as was the give/take between Sam and her.

By the time the show ended, I was a later teenager and was very sad to see it go. I had grown up with it, watching with my parents along with Cosby, et al. There are many great things I can say about it, but instead I have decided to go with a Mary-Ann//Ginger post. Look, I'm a guy, OK?
