Got a source on this that's not from the bow-tied dick's derp site?

I am more than willing to believe that a state government can be that stupid, but at the same time I want to make sure there's not something else going on.

It's an AP wire story.

I was unaware that mayors  can give "special dispensations" from municipal ordinances.

The headline read he was "bullied".

So all you need is crowds of people behind the barber and glaring at the officials and police and they will cower down.

I mean, that's the way it's suppose to work, amirite?

Authoritarians, 'Christians', police, rich people should start being a little more nicer to homeless.

When that random 10 mile wide meteor slams into this place Earth, that we all call home, we humans will all be reduced to the same level. Money wont matter. Guns wont matter. Police wont matter. Politics. God, Jesus and Disneyland wont matter. Guess which people will already know how to live without?

They will get to watch all the people running around, trying to charge their phones, trying to get clean, trying to find food. Killing each other for ammo.

But wait, what's that? looks like that big meteor brought a few more friends with him.

God is in his holy temple.

CT. is only classy or compassionate it you are rich.  Otherwise they have no use or interest in people being helped.

2013-06-15 12:58:33 PM
On another note:  So are they going to hassle every Mom, Dad or friend that cuts someones hair?  He didn't take any compensation, but a hug. I occasionally drive friends around, but I not longer have a public service licence, I don't charge them, maybe we just have lunch dutch treat.  Am I gonna get busted also?

I don't want to give clicks to whatever site that is, but if this is about keeping instruments sanitized, I'm with the officials.  I already don't care for sharing with random people who presumably have jobs, Barbicide notwithstanding.

I'm sure licensed barbers have some cursory health training, as they were once ranked with surgeons and the root and bark lady.

There's a need for hair cutters to check for lice, scurvy, leprosy, genital warts, skin infections, rabies, caligula among the very poor and unwashed. Probably some truth to that.

When it comes to licenses for stuff like this often it's just for those engaging in it as a profession/business. So someone doing it just to do it and not getting paid nor operating a place of business would not need a license. Surprised it isn't that way in CT.

Link to non-derp site.

TL;DR (but it's a short article):  he was giving haircuts in a city park, the cops said "you can't do that", the mayor said "oh, yes he can".  Apparently he doesn't have a barber's license.

Guns will matter until the ammo runs out.  And then they'll start mattering again when someone finds ready sources of sulfur and saltpeter, charcoal being rather easy to come by.

Or someone's frisbee or flag football game was canceled due to homeless on the field.

As for the license, I am sure you only need one when you are under the legal status of a business, as in collecting money.  Unless of course you are providing medical services, but it has been a long time since barbers doubled as dentist.

1) A 10 mile meteor would probably wipe out most life on the planet
2) Being a crazy person/drug addict/subway busker living on the street is not going to imbue you with special post apocalyptic foraging power
3) If we are still alive, guns are going to be about the most important thing left on the planet.

Licences shouldn't be required in the first place.  Its anti-free market and serves no purpose other than artificially inflating the salaries that specific professions get.

HORRORS.

The full weight of the state must be brought to bear on this lurking menace. And while we're at it, Connecticut had better get busy shutting down all those monstrously dangerous unlicensed upholsterers and taxidermists. Connecticut is well on the way to going full Somalia because they don't license florists, you know. Occupational licensing isn't a legalized protection racket - far from it. A spokeswoman for Mayor Pedro Segarra said later Thursday that he granted Cymerys a special dispensation in light of his years of charitable work. The spokeswoman, Maribel La Luz, said the city will help Cymerys obtain a state barber's license if he likes.

Those monsters.

But seriously, it's cute when it's one sweet old guy giving semi-pro haircuts in the park. It's significantly less cute when it's the fortune teller and the manicurist doing their thing for "charitable donations." Then come the guys sitting on coolers full of bottled water, etc. etc., and your park is halfway to being a strip mall.

Then all the people complaining about the heavy, stupid hand of government oppressing this guy by making him get the okay from the mayor would instead be complaining about how this joke of a city can't even police its own parks. There's flagrant unauthorized commerce going on in this recreational-zoned area, and nary a permit in sight!

Don't get me wrong, municipal government is often a special kind of dumb and/or corrupt. But this is the system working the way it's supposed to. The rule is upheld and a sensible exception is made. What's the problem?

Only until your ammunition dies from moisture, and your gas to power the generator lasts so you can see the people in the dark with pointed sticks, guns without logistics fail like all of our other technology pretty fast.

As a libertarian, I can tell you that most libertarians don't believe there's NO place for government in society. In this case, where a license probably comes with health training, a license isn't a bad idea or an overreach of government. There are real health issues involved, including the spread of lice, hepatitis, and God only knows how many bacterial skin infections.

Roight, guv.  Because barbers, who bring sharp objects in close proximity to their clients' skin, are JUST LIKE florists, who bring sharp objects in close proximity only to flower stems.  The one is no riskier than the other.  The Free Market® will sort it all out after a few people catch a few infections.

(That said, they guy in TFA probably knows what he's doing, and the mayor was willing to help him get a license.)
