Beautiful day here today, dry and no wind, not a cloud in the sky.

Marcus Aurelius: Beautiful day here today, dry and no wind, not a cloud in the sky.

With the USGA's luck, a monsoon will move in by four o'clock.

The USGA loves golfers. Let's ask Phil Mickelson what he thinks of Merion.

"This is the best setup I've ever seen for a U.S. Open," he said. "It's a course that's withstood the test of time and it's challenging the best players in the world this week."

HE  COULD  GO  ALL THE  WAYYYYY

And back on Wednesday the conventional wisdom said because of the short length and soft greens there'd be 62s and 63sall over the place.

Give me a tournament course where a guy can't just bomb his drive 330 yards out in whatever direction he chooses.

Same thing was supposed to happen back in 1981, and in the end you could count the under par finishers on one hand.

Yesterday's pin placements were diabolical.

I wonder if Johnny Miller will talk about shooting a 63 on the last day of the US Open.  He never tells that story.

He'll mention it right after he points out how often nerves affect a shot and which players are choking because of the pressure.

This week people are remembering "oh yeah, length doesn't matter when the pin placement is so freaking difficult"

They'll loosen them up today.

I'm still waiting to see a ball land in that sawgrass in the bunkers.  You'd need a weed whacker to hit it out of there.

I think this all points to my big problem with Miller. Yeah, a lot of analysts in every sport played the game. But Miller is the only one I can think of who seems to seriously believe he's better than anyone actually playing the game he covers now.

I watched him win both his opens.  He was able to turn his game up on demand in those two instances.  Fun to watch on TV.  But I think he never won another major beside those, did he?

2013-06-15 10:28:08 AM
No, that was it. From what I remember reading, he got the yips and could never putt again.

I think he just projects all his worried scared feelings on everybody playing because everybody is definitely as nervous as him.

He may not think he is better, but I think he knows he SHOULD'VE been better. So, he needs to remind people that he is really good (like crowing about hitting the ball a groove high or low as soon as it leaves the club face).

It'a the Tim McCarver / Joe Morgan affect. Did you know one caught Bob Gibson and the other played for the Reds?

2013-06-15 10:44:31 AM
its bad enough the commentators babble on about whatever, but at least show the golf play instead of having to look at their mugs.

the object after all is watching players play.

He would know, At the end of his career, he could not make a putt. It was actually embarrassing.

Do you know how much better Jon Miller would have been on Sunday Night Baseball if they'd paired him with ANYONE else?

I love that they make a point of saying under 7000 yards and how ridiculously short that is.

95% of the people watching this telecast wouldn't even be able to find a course that played over 6700 if they tried.
