Why bother? They're just going to keep redoing it until it doesn't even resemble the Star Wars Land you remembered as a kid.

Bashar and Asma's Infinite Playlist: Why bother? They're just going to keep redoing it until it doesn't even resemble the Star Wars Land you remembered as a kid.

It's not for us.

Disney was decent when I was a kid. I don't think there is a word in our language to explain how great it would have been at 9 years old if there had been a ton of Star Wars stuff.

This is good news.  Disney desperately needs some more stuff at Hollywood studios and they also need more stuff for boys since they have sold out to the princesses.  My daughters theater program at her school does yearly disney trips so hopefully in a few years this will make it a little more fun.

2013-06-15 09:27:51 AM
This is actually the one good thing that I anticipated from the Disney takeover.  I have wanted a Star Wars theme park for years, and no matter what you think of Disney, the sure as hell know how to do theme parks.

Really. I have young kids now and they love "Star Wars" as much as I did when I was young. I'm going to have as much fun with this as they are.

On the one hand more Star Wars!!!!!! But it makes me really sad to see the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground go. My kids and I have some really nice memories of cooling off there.

But... More Star Wars!!!

Don't worry, you will do something stupid and they will hate you anyway, don't let the pressure of Disney get to you.

It's Disney. It's not like you're turning into George W Bush because you take them on a friggin vacation somewhere other people have gone to.

I'll remember this post more than most I think. I remember very vividly in the 1990s when Vegas chose to emulate Disney and try to be family-friendly with the rollercoasters and the rides and things. And the horror that ensued.

I guess here in 2013, reading some guy write "sounds like a Vegas attraction" meant those fears were not unfounded.

They should shut down and complete renovate Epcot center for this.

The ball is an obvious easy conversion.  The world showcase could easily become all the different planets.

What they left out is that Hollywood Studios is also getting a Cars ride just like California Adventures.

This. Disappearing into that place with the munchkin was just the sort of mental reset we needed in the middle of a long day in the park.

Turn it into a playground on the forest moon of Endor, Hoth, etc. and you'll forget the HISTK playground ever existed.

This rumor is older than Jaime Lee Curtis' dick.

I think it will definitely happen, but it's going to be much bigger than just meet and greet areas.  There will be at least one other major ride associated with it, as this will be Disney's Lightsaber into the junk of Universal's Harry Potter.

I wouldn't rule out Disney getting the Marvel character rights back from Universal and throwing them into the mix as well.

No nononono no.

Just no.

EPCoT is adult-friendly because there are not so many kid attractions. If they Star Wars up the joint, then they might be tempted to make it a dry park... with Star Wars merchandising making up for booze sales. That's wrong.

Make a new park in all the swamp land in Florida.

/Jedi Training Academy is awesome if you have a non-spaz kid.
/they won't pick your spaz kid you've taught to be uncontrollable because they don't want some crazy spaz kid whacking the Jedi castmembers in the nuts.

Well, you can rule that out. Those Marvel rides are staying at Islands of Adventure as long as Universal wants them. Nothing to prevent Disney from developing rides around Iron Man or The Avengers, but there is just so much they can do with Star Wars. What they need to do is drop the Avatar expansion at Animal Kingdom they are planning. That's just plain dumb. Avatar was huge because it was innovative and beautiful, but the movie is beloved by no one.

So much this...they better keep the Muppet Theater. That was freaking awesome. Once they get some of that new star wars stuff up and running our family is heading back. And yes we did the Jedi Training Academy and my son LOVED it. Then proceeded to go on Star Tours 10x in a row and only got a repeat once.

My one kid that was too scared to volunteer for the Jedi Academy loved the shiat out of Star Tours, but my other kid that got on stage for the Jedi Academy refused to go in Star Tours. Mind was slightly boggled.

Hollywood Studios is not a particularly popular Disney Park, and it's very old-school and way too similar to Universal's gig down the road. It wouldn't surprise me if they junked that entire concept and just turned the whole place over to Skywalker and the gang. Hell I would.

Never happen. The park is already too boyish. Princesses are their bread and butter and they won't mess that up. That's why star wars land in gonna be one more ride and some stores. They should turn the entire park into a massive Pixar/Lucasfilm/Marvel orgy.  But they'll only add a few boy centric things, and probably another princess show of some sort.

Holy shiat, that's an awesome idea.

Morocco could be Tatooine, Mexico could be Yavin (they had pyramids there), America could be Coruscant (capital of the galaxy), Canada with all that wood could be Endor, Norway, Hoth. Naboo has a French vibe. The added revenue would more than pay for all the international incidents.

Strike that. Reverse that.

I also hate to be the "5th park" guy, but with 43 square miles of space (minus existing venues), you'd think they could pull it off without converting half or more of an existing one.

Well we weren't serious about converting EPCOT (as boring as it is now) but it's a pretty big deal to build an entirely new park. Although they are due. EPCOT was 1982, MGM (Hollywood), 1989, Animal Kingdom, 1997 so yeah, they are due for another one I suppose. But they sunk so much into the Star Wars franchise already and although the Marvel movies make a lot of money, they have to give most of it to Robert Downey Jr.

As long as they open a Tatooine cantina, I'll be happy.

This is not accurate. Something is coming, but this is some Blogger who claims to be in the know (they're not) and just throwing out a bunch of rumors and seeing which one will stick.

The real stuff will be announced in August at the Disney convention.

I used to run most of theforce.net (that's right, ladies) and at least when I was there they were pretty meticulous about sources. Anyway, it's all pretty vague, they'll obviously be building some SW additions and the cantina is a fairly obvious assumption. I don't know about Star Tours though, it took them a couple decades to renovate it the first time.

Where is that going to be, at Animal Kingdom?

How was Avatar the #1 movie of all time (adjusted for inflation of course)? I hardly know anyone who saw it, much less remember it.

Just got back from the annual Disney trip. We did the star wars weekend and it was very cool.  The kids got to meet vader and I got to wear my troopers jersey.

CSB:  While eating dinner at the magic kingdom a huge guy wearing a chewbacca shirt and carrying a blue light saber cane in a wheelchair had the table next to us.   I had a hunch that guy was the actor that played chewbacca so I googled him.  It was Peter Meysomething.

I'd go there, but they need to have like an "adults only" week for me to even consider making the trip. Hell, pick like the week most schools are giving midterms or something, even if it's in February.

Disney would be amazing without children around.

I actually find the adults more irritating than the kids. I take my niece and nephew and their friends and they're well mannered and behaved. They run around and have fun, they're not like Hitler youth or anything but they don't bother others. The adults around us though are rude, pushy, fat, obnoxious, loud and fat.

Avatar would make a better park area than a movie. It's story is what sucked, and rides need very little of that. Bring on the crazy wildlife jungle mutants, imo.

Though there is probably equal room to add more dinosaur stuff, or deepsea exploration stuff instead.
