Breitbart indicated that Karkoc will likely outlive the judicial process.

My first thought as well. Dude will probably be dead before anything comes of this.

He wanted to pay for his past sins.

another day another story about nazis

Who writes about their exploits for the Nazis & is then surprised to find out some people have a problem with this?  The guy may or may not be guilty of war crimes, he's certainly guilty of chronic stupidity though - & his relatives if they knew about the book.

This story is unpossible. According to Fark, all nazis live below the Mason-Dixon Line, Fark their sisters, have no teef and are named billy-Jo-bob.

someone from Minneapolis once gave me a business card with "nazi extraordinaire" on it, so I am getting a kick out of these replies.

WRONG.  All Klan live below the Mason-Dixon Line.

Things like the Blues Brothers, the late 70's Skokie Illinois case and Demjanjuk show that Nazi's can definetly be in the North.

I think you are right.  Its around the same time period and the scene in the Blues Brothers is a parade of Nazis and the cop says something to the Blues Brothers about the Nazis winning a court case - which was what happened in Skokie.

I doubt he would be surprised at public disapproval, and I'm guessing you oversimplify a complex issue by chalking up his memoir simply to stupidity. He waited until he was 80ish, and I'm guessing he left out either some identifying information, or the worst of his Nazi involvement. While his motives aren't covered in article, it may be because of guilt, and trying to atone for some of what he did.

I'd like to know what he's done for a living all these years.

I'm guessing machinist.

Of course, he was Ukrainian and not German, so I may have to switch my answer to sausage maker.  He was in Northeast Minneapolis and those Ukes up there do know their sausage.

So he was a 'commander' during the war years when he went from 20 to 25 years old?
Seems young - were the smarter/older guys hiding from service or already dead at that point?

Did you ever read 'All Quiet on the Western Front'? They talk about putting ~11-12 year olds into service by the end of the war for lack of anybody else.

Guess we'll find out on the remorse front; goes quietly or fights deportation.

If there was sufficient information for a chemist/amateur historian to identify and then start looking for him, I'd say he didn't leave out the right details.  Since the book was only published in the Ukraine, perhaps he was hoping to make a little money from the sales; there's a fair number of Neo-Nazis roaming those parts of the world and perhaps they were his target readership.  Not everyone feels guilt, nor regrets past actions.

The two nukes we dropped on them and the fire bombing of Tokyo basically let their war criminals off the hook.

We fire-bombed many cities in Germany too, and then we cut it in half and gave one part to the Soviets where they lived under KGB and the Stasi for 50 years, while putting them under our own boot for 50 years as well.
