WTFdoesitmatter: Sgygus: Coca-Cola BlāK

I loved that stuff. Diet Mountain Dew is the nastiest thing I have drank.

//this or water?  this.

I don't get it either. Diet Mt Dew actually tastes better than the regular HFCS swill.

My zero-calorie drink of choice is Vanilla Coke Zero. Orange Fanta Zero is delicious as well.

/Dammit, Coke, Barq's Zero already please

I have 2 sodas in my fridge, DMD and Cherry Coke Zero.   Both are great.   Barqs Zero would be great, but A&W 10 isn't bad either.  Try that one.

I actually tried this. It is Ramune KIMCHEE soda. Of course it is made in Japan. It tastes like someone fermented kimchee in with seven up.

I wouldn't recommend it, even for those who like kimchee.

Back in the mists of time; growing up in Thatcher's Britain - we had the Alpine pop man come round with a truck of "almost but not quite" pop.

Cola that wasn't coke. Lemonade that was far too sickly sweet. Orangeade that stained your teeth orange.

The worst three were Dandelion and Burdock, Iron Brew (not IrnBru) and Jungle Juice.

Dandelion and Burdock tastes like it sounds. Like a wartime soda that kept being made "just because". Horrible. Iron Brew tasted of rust. Jungle Juice was the the effluent overflow from a nuclear waste plant.

I'll have to find pictures.

Other Japanese sodas I have also tried are Teriyaki and Hot Chili Oil, also from Ramune. I just saw a curry flavored one on this web site;

I think the Japanese have outdone themselves.....

Ego edo infantia cattus: I know it sounds crazy, but I actually kind of liked chili pepper oil flavored soda.
There's also curry flavor!

If you like chili pepper sodas, you should try some of this:

www.sodapopstop.com

Citrus and jalapeño, with some herbs and spices added.  It's really, really good, and you can find it at a fair few specialty shops in the US.  They also have a blue one, which is more of a cola flavor, but still has the jalapeño oil and African capsicum in it.

I must have plebian taste buds. I have no desire to try offbeat, high falutin' soda flavors.

I will admit that I LOVE Raspberry Coke. Sadly, it is only available through the uber soda
fountain machines like Moe's or Firehouse Subs has.

Oh - and Diet Apple Slice and Countrytime Lemonade soda (carbonated)

I just want to say that I love Moxie. I buy one every week when I go grocery shopping and it's great. It tastes like a more-intense root beer to me. I did hate it when I was a kid though.
That said, my favorite non-alcoholic carbonated beverage right now is Polar Cucumber Melon seltzer. yum.

I don't know about that.  I have a 5 or so year old bottle of Jones Brussel Sprout soda here on my desk.  I think I would rather drink the ranch dressing soda.

Third Day Mark: Yes, there is a Diet Chocolate Fudge soda. And it is the nastiest shiat you will ever imagine.

simkatu: I bet a friend $5 he couldn't finish a can of this stuff.  He choked it down, but it is gross.

OH MY GOD someone else has actually tried that stuff. They ain't lyin'.

Actually I only ever managed to drink a can of this on a bet myself. It was $10 and I was in middle school or something back then so $10 was a big deal. Me and my friend "raced" to the bottom. And by "raced" I mean I got one gulp and my body choked on it. Over the course of the next hour I forced the rest of that sh*t down only to realize my friend had been sandbagging me and only ever took the first few sips of his. I guess he quickly came to the conclusion it wasn't worth the ten bucks. I about beat the hell out of him for tricking me into finishing mine, ten dollars be damned.

red5ish: bmihura: Astorix: The Japanese have come out with red bean soda.

The Japanese out-weird the entire planet though. Probably other planets too, but I have no proof of that.

Red "azuki" beans are mixed with sugar, ground into a paste and used in lots of Japanese pastries. It's not that weird. After all, we eat pumpkin pie.

Bean buns are actually pretty good.

Bean soda, on the other hand...probably not.

I think they have squid and hot chili soda and so forth as well, so there's that....

Nick Nostril: I've always wondered what Vegemite-flavoured soda would taste like.

Would you use it to wash down these?

Third Day Mark: Diet Mt Dew and Diet Dr Pepper are pretty close to the originals

When I was first diagnosed as diabetic and switched to diet, I thought Diet Dew tasted like flat regular Dew. However, it's probably my favorite standard pop now.

bglove25: NeoCortex42: That doesn't look like Moxie.

Speaking of sodas, I learned this week that Maple Cream Soda is a thing. And it's...not bad.
Moxie is terrible. Once, as a wee lad, my family was on vacation in New England and my Dad bought a 6 pack of Moxie, thinking it was Orange Soda.  Imagine the surprise and horror as we cracked open cold, carbonated death.

CSB: Moxie is my HS band director's favorite soda. As an unofficial "initiation" to the freshman, they are made to drink a can after a marching band competition (of course, you can't force them, but you're pretty much ostracized if you don't). The best description I've heard from those experiences were that it tastes like warm root beer and toothpaste.

/Nasty stuff
//Will now consider using Moxie as punishment with his bands.

portnoyd: You don't know bad soda until you've tried Scottish bad soda. Of my entire two trips for work to Scotland years ago, the worst thing about the trip was this. It tastes like rotting Smarties.

My ex absolutely loved this stuff. I spent years (casually) looking for it in the states on her behalf. She was later diagnosed with a fully-laden raft of mental issues. Perhaps that should have been an early indicator.

The worst soda is when you get a fountain drink of a clear soda and take a swig, only to find that the syrup was empty.

I've drank Beverly, and it's not THAT bad.  Granted, it does need some gin (okay, a lot of gin) to make it really drinkable.

Whatcha talkin bout willis?  Fresca was one of the greatest sodas ever.  I wish I could still find it.

I agree with you. Cold Fresca in a glass of ice is one of the greatest thirst quenchers ever invented.

However, the stuff is loaded with Aspertame, and after seeing how my grandfather checked out of this world (Alzheimer's) after drinking a 6 pack a day for who know how long, I just can't bring myself to drink it anymore. I have no links to a scientific connection for that, it's just something stuck in my head.
