Hadn't seen my dad in 30 years. Then he died of pancreatic cancer. So I've got that going for me.

Song For My Father -- Horace Silver (no words, but the opening piano vamp was famously ripped off/homaged by Steely Dan)

trolling or just never listened to the lyrics?

I have.  It's me and my Dad to a "T".  It's not his fault his job required being away from Mom and I for some extended periods.  When he was home, he did an excellent job of trying to teach me how to be a fine, upstanding citizen.  It's not his fault I didn't always listen.

Because of that song, and how it can make me sad to listen to, I do my best to make sure I've got time I can spend hanging out with him.  Our shooting trips are a great deal of fun.  The best hiking trip of my life was the 2 weeks we spent with an old Boy Scout troop of mine we reconnected with for a Philmont excursion.  Now I'm looking forward to the 2 weeks we're going to spend driving (then flying) up to a remote fishing lodge in western Ontario.  He went last year with some Army buddies, and asked me to come along this time.  I'm starting to show him up at shooting, but I haven't been fishing in well over a decade.  I think I've still got some learning to do.

/my Dad's awesome

Geez, thank you. I just woke up and was instantly heart broken over being called a troll for loving how the song describes my relationship with my dad, who I LOVE to death. I've been gone for far too many years of my adult life and I miss the sh*t out of my old man, I practically bawl when I hear that song.

Waking up to read that post kind of killed me a little inside. Some of us make sacrifices in our lives that we don't enjoy, but endure.

Love you Dad

I know a bit how you feel.  I'm bummed that I can't make Father's Day breakfast tomorrow (with Dad and Grandpa) because I have to work, and the plans were laid last minute (par for the course for us).

I'd buy you a beer tomorrow so we could drink to our fathers.
