Goddamn it. There's exactly ONE Pink Floyd album I want to listen to.

Someone wake me when they "unlock" the music.

Well, this is one of the least impressive marketing ploys I've seen in a while.

Call me when Spotify figures out how to tell the difference between multiple bands named "Exodus".  Makes for an interesting playlist.

my wife and i have a joke;  it isn't really a trip to Tucson until we hear Floyd on the radio.  Tucson loves them some pink floyd.  morning noon and night.  there must be a city ordinance that says at all times, at least one Tucson radio station be playing either Comfortably Numb, Have a Cigar, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Hey You, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, Antoehr Brick In the Wall, Mother, Hey You, Us and Them (radio edit), Money, Hey You, or that trippy cymbal / WUB WUB-WUB-WUBWUBWUB-WUB - WUB WUB song from DSOTM", or Hey You at all times.

I guarantee you as I write, Tucson is rocking Pink Floyd.

is that the one with the black and white cow on it?

Asking since the DSOTM cover art dsigner just died, and he also did the "black and white cow" cover for them.  In a recent interview, he said he misheard the band's idea for the cover art.  Turns out Waters said he wanted household objects for the cover.  the quote was like, "roger later told me he wanted things like, 'doorknob', 'window', 'chimney', 'plough'.  I heard 'plough' as 'cow', so I drove out in the coutnryside and found that cow just standing there....."

Oh.  well, the story still holds, however.

not a huge Floyd guy but love DSOTM and parts of WYWH.  I never "got" The Wall. I heard the recent live show was worth the cost, but not being a huge Floyd guy and not really likin gthe album, I passed.

a buddy has those 24kt gold CDs (remember those?  "Ultradisc" or some such?) and I took the three "Brock in the Wall" songs, and stitched them together into one "song".  it is kinda neat.  not exactly an original idea but still cool.  email if you want to hear it.

I love Pink Floyd but I agree the radio stations need to dig deeper into their catalog.

I usually skip Money if I hear it, but then the dial keeps going and then I am like I could have at least been listening to Floyd instead of whatever that song just was.

If I wanted to listen to Pink Floyd, I'd turn on any deadly dull "classic RAWK" station in the country. Christ, aren't people sick of hearing the same goddamn shiat over and over for the last 40 years?

You do realize there's a hell of a lot more to PF than the 6 songs that those stations play, right?

A few songs you won't hear on any Clear Channel owned classic rock station

For example, Echoes

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Dogs

and so on.

Money, Brain Damage, Wish You Were Here, Run Like Hell, and Another Brick in the Wall pt 2, only scratch the surface of the band's ability

Yes, but I still don't see how people aren't sick and tired of ALL of it.  The constant shoving down our collective throats of bands like Floyd and Zeppelin has COMPLETELY destroyed any desire to ever hear any of that crap again. At one time I loved that stuff, now I'm so burned out on it it all sounds like shiat.

They sure aren't.  Radio playlists are heavily researched.  People crave familiarity.  Its a proven fact.  Veer too far off those rails, ratings go down.  Ratings go down, businesses don't advertise.  Radio is a commercial endeavor.  You only have your fellow citizen to blame.

I love PF, all the way down. Looks like I'll be streaming my second to last favorite song by them just to help unlock the discography. Hopefully it includes the Pompeii set.

I must have watched the DVD of that performance 1000 times in the summer of 04.

Well, I don't think any classic rock station would be willing to play a 25 minute song.  Even back in the day.

I will say... I remember our local classic rock station back when I was a kid (WCKG?) would play a full album of some sort every Sunday at midnight or so.  It was really great to fall asleep to.  So yeah, there you'd be exposed to great songs like "Echoes".

And "Thick as a Brick".  In full.

I don't think the Pompeii set was ever released as a record, so I assume not?  I could be wrong... I'm lazy and just watch that from You Tube now.

Wish You Were Here was my ex-husbands and my song. It was even engraved on the inside of his wedding band. Which he conveniently took off every time he cheated on me. I still love the song but can't listen to it without the urge to kill rising.

They do, usually in the $50-100 range (some of the rarer ones, unopened, can get $500).

It's not quite enough for me to bother selling any of mine. $200 each, sure, but $50 just ain't worth the effort

THIS.  And when the last song on the album comes to a close, I can pop out my CD (an archival copy, of course), look at it, and say "I own this, and if I want to sell it to someone I'll just toodle down to the flea market and set up a table."  Subscription fee?  What's that?

Stupid cloud.  Ruining everything for people.

$500 is a big stretch. Some schmuck lists gold discs well above their actual value and rarely sells any except to people who don't know the market, have money to burn and don't know where else to look. $50-$75 is much more common for most titles, still a nice return on investment..

Easy answer is to do what I do:  Don't listen to anything but talk radio and pick the music you want to listen to by choosing CDs, MP3s, Spotify, etc.

Even preference services like Pandora serve up the same songs over and over (seriously, Vampire Weekend is horrible, but they show up in EVERY station I create).  Answer?  Don't let someone else pick your music.  Then you don't get sick of it.
