I gotta tell ya, that hardly sounds like he was being bullied. And I clicked that article with the intent on being sympathetic; all my grandparents were from Canada and my mother's first language is French.

I love Canada.
The men are boring and the women are bored.
If I want to have a good time, I go up to Montreal on Hockey night and hit a lounge.
Full of women.Lonely, lonely women.

Some adults were making fun of a kid for being Canadian?  I'll just skip past the 'why' and ask how exactly do you do that?  How is it possible to make fun of anyone for where they are from?  I would imagine it would be using a lot of statements that needed to be followed with a "That wasn't a compliment".

2013-06-14 11:09:50 AM
With Canadians, it's all about process.  The kid probably wasn't upset by the bullying so much as the fact that the mockery didn't proceed using Robert's Rules newly revised, and he couldn't move to adjourn.

"You're wearing Canadian colors."

Really? This is bullying to the extent that you need to pull your child from school? I wonder how fast the little snowflake would dissolve into a quivering mass were he actually bullied?

Congrats, Mom. You are raising an emotionally stunted child who will be unable to handle the slightest bit of negativity as an adult. Way to go. Maybe someone will give him a trophy for breathing and being Canadian and stuff.

I hate bullies and bullying. I also hate overreacting jackwagons who thing that anything that isn't super nice and friendly and supportive is bullying.

Non-Canadians think we're being polite. What you have to realize is that when we say "sorry" we have many meanings behind it, ranging from genuinely apologetic to "you're in my way" to "fark right off."

I could almost see the principal's point: there are some Canadian's who I picture removing her Canadian colors or wearing no colors at all.

However, if he's picturing this kid like that, he needs to be locked up.

Americans shouldn't joke about Canadians liking the Stanley Cup. The excesses of the Superbowl and March madness make Canadian Stanley Cup obsession seem like a small town festival.

Tough comparison.  On the one hand, I'm an American currently elbow deep in Stanley Cup hysteria.  On the other hand, Super Bowl Sunday has as much to do with people watching football (90% of the viewership is for the commercials and halftime show) as watching pornographic films has to do with following a plot.

With the exception of diehard fans of the teams involved, Americans watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. They watch March Madness to see how their bracket is doing. Canadians actually care who wins the Stanley Cup, I mean, REALLY REALLY CARE.

Sounds like a baby

When I was down in the USA for 6 months snowboarding and surfing everyone would always ask me to say "about" Then they would laugh like hyenas and frankly i still laugh about it.

After 5 months though I ran into a guy from toronto, he said eh so many times i could have strangled him

Um, you live close to Canada.  It's kinda cold there.  So, you probably don't have many canadians around.
That's why you have never heard the term, which is used to describe canadians, not Canadians.

No...it was far worse than "You're wearing Canadian colors." One teacher called him "polite" to his face and a  student told him that hockey "sucks".
