Gotta love America.  People posting online in a ten-dollar movie thread about how poor they are.

mark.jms: At first I was reminded of this:

Walter Jon Williams - Hardwired

which would actually turn into a movie pretty easily.

Good lord, the cover of that book is just pure 80s, inn't it?

Dolph Lundgren should sue for use of his likeness.

nukeim: What in the hell makes people think a GTR will still be functioning in 150 years?

3D printers.

Does that make sense to you?  Movies were popular during the Great Depression, too.

It's Battle Angel Alita.

2013-06-14 08:37:28 AM

antron: GrenadeOConner: Sharlto Copley... The fact he's playing a protagonist in this based on the trailer makes it all the better

Matt Damon's character is the protagonist.
I believe Sharlto is playing the antagonist.
The guy they send to stop MATT DAMON.

Clearly you have never read the Johnny Lawrence Story

Mentat: Popcorn Johnny: Thanks subby, you just saved me 10 bucks since that goddamn trailer gave away the whole farking movie!!

That's one reason I love Mad Men trailers.

Next Week on Mad Men:
Roger:  Are you ready?
Peggy:  You can't do that!
Pete:  Things are finally looking up!
Megan:  I don't understand!
Don:  *drinks*

hahaha, so true, so true.

So farkin' THIS.  Trailers are suppose to wet the appetite.  Watching this one, I feel like I've eaten dinner already.

foo monkey: Dialectic: So in the future we have more poor people?

We are them now. The divide is just not as great.

You have internet, so I'm not quite sure you know what being poor means.

I know, it's weird, but it means sharpen.

Long trailers = shiat movie, every time.

Matt Damon sucks, too.

2013-06-14 09:51:02 AM
I'm not a big fan of being knocked over the head with allegory in a movie.

... what did you think this movie was going to be about, after seeing the first trailer? Now we know WHY Matt Damon is going up to KHITBASH Jodie Foster, that the society is even more hyper-dystopian than we expected, and that there's an Evil Matt Damon character.

Other than the Evil Matt Damon character, what exactly did this trailer show that gave away the "whole farking movie"?

Fano: Honest Bender: Popcorn Johnny: Thanks subby, you just saved me 10 bucks since that goddamn trailer gave away the whole farking movie!!

Dude, that's why I don't watch trailers.  Avoid the hype.

I learned that after seeing the trailer for What Lies Beneath. Christ, that was like a trailer for 6th Sense that starts with "and he's a ghost."

Has it ever occurred to you that some people haven't actually seen/read some things?  Or are you just an asshole?

2013-06-14 09:58:57 AM
I predict the political ideology of various media organs will dictate many of the reviews of this film.

2013-06-14 10:03:55 AM
Well, not only do I not have to see the movie, but now I need to dig up a copy of Battle Angel somewhere.

More or less why I'll wait for disc or digital release on this one

Meh, I'll stick with Metropolis for my dystopian "the rich live in paradise, the poor are disposable" movie.

You could try shooting Ronald Reagan's corpse.

B.L.Z. Bub: In the year 2154, the very wealthy live on Elysium, a massive high-tech utopian metropolis located in the skies above earth that is free of crime, war, poverty, hunger, and diseases, while everyone else lives on an overpopulated, ruined Earth below.

Sounds like a metaphor for how Hollywood views its place in America: the pinnacle of cultural enlightenment towering above a sea of dirty unwashed masses. Every once in a while they glance down and pity us, hence this movie. I don't need their pity.

And speaking of class warfare, isn't Matt Damon worth like tens of millions of dollars? Why do you need all that money, Matt? Why you gotta be a greedy 1%-er? Are you gonna claim you're morally superior because you gave away a few crumbs of your massive fortune? Why don't you give it all away and come live amongst us little people, you farking hypocrite?

I bet you are a frakking blast at Thanksgiving

Original sci-fi has become pretty rare, so I'll go see this.  Even if he hits me over the head like he did District 9.

/skipping the trailer

mm, Jodie Foster. I'd have it put the lotion on its skin.
/then I'd give it the hose anyway.

I think the statute of limitation on that one has passed. If you wait 14 years to see a movie you're kinda inviting spoilers.
