Cruise ship themed hotel?  Wasn't that the Titanic?

I just showed this to my wife (presently planning an Asian cruise for our 25th) and she said: Ummmm. how about, NO!  :(

/tenth was Western Med, twentieth was Eastern Med
/cruises are good for remembrances of special occasions... and not remembering because of the amount of booze

Do the toilets stop working after you check in?  Does the hotel tip over?  Is the dysentery complimentary?

2013-06-14 03:01:08 AM
When is the engine room fire scheduled?

I call bullshcitt.  There is no way that any in their right mind would build a hotel shaped like a cruise ship.  I bet that some drunk captain crashed the ship on top of the cliff and the cruise line figured it was cheaper to just leave it where it was and call it a hotel.

Yeah, how about it?  You don't have to worry about the engine or rotors breaking down, if the sanitation system breaks down, you can just walk away and not have to sit at sea for WEEKS.  If you want the water, it's right there.  I'm failing to see a problem with this.  But I guess haters gotta hate.

Though there is the whole "You're not going to various destinations" thing.

It's been done. (Well, OK, it's a shopping mall and office complex, not a hotel, but still.)

Yep, that inconvenient fact that you are not doing the only freaking thing about a cruise ship that makes it better than a resort or hotel.

It's Supposedly Fun!
"There is something about a mass-market Luxury Cruise that's unbearably sad. Like most unbearably sad things, it seems incredibly elusive and complex in its causes and simple in its effect: on board the Nadir-especially at night-I felt despair. The word's overused and banalified now, despair, but it's a serious word, and I'm using it seriously."

It's an excerpt from David Foster Wallace's 'A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again". A personal exposé about cruising as a vacation, and no, he (David) is not OK.

Nah - they weren't going fast enough to hit higher ground like the Koreans did.

Cruise ship themed hotel?

Oh, you mean the HMS Queen Mary. A hotel made from an actual cruise ship.

2.bp.blogspot.com

A nice place to go if you want to get a feel for 1930's retro, and if you don't mind the shrieks from souls of the damned coming from the bowels of the ship.

The engine room's in the basement!

And the view is like being on top of a 200 ft wave.

I work with so many people who would love this. They hate the sea sickness, but love the atmosphere.

I always make fun of  big cruises because they're just big hotels floating on their sides. This just proves my point.

Okoboji: Though there is the whole "You're not going to various destinations" thing.

I've watched a lot of cruise ships come and go in places I traveled by plane or train. Must be a real thrill to travel with your own "instant crowd" so you don't have to enjoy the actual ambiance of a place.

At this point, The Sun could do a story about how the sky was blue, and I would doubt it.

RMS Queen Mary.

The HMS Queen Mary has been sitting at the bottom of the North Sea since the Germans sank her in 1916.

Still, better than modern ships where the shrieks come from your own bowels because the toilets are backed up.

[iseewhatyoudidthere.jpg]

They really cheaped out on building that, sadly. Not only did they not build the whole ship, and not only did they not build even the reverse side of the front half (it looks like a warehouse with funnels, from behind), and not only did they not build the portion they made at 1:1 scale, they even cheaped out on the external features. The bridge and bridge wing windows, for example, are painted on -- and badly. They didn't spend the few thou for a few panes of glass in front of a six-inch recess to make it look vaguely convincing up close.

It's interesting inside, but pretty disappointing, externally. Which fits nicely into the tourist shiathole that is Pigeon Forge.

And how could you not do that from a resort or hotel?

Hint: There is *zero* advantage to a cruise ship over a hotel, other than the ever-changing scenery.

Use your brain, Butthead.
