No Flaming Dr. Pepper?

A Michelada isn't supposed to contain tequila.  Part of the beauty of the Michelada is that it's a pretty weak drink.  You can have several and not be stumbling around drunk.

beyond beer and lime juice and spices i don't feel like there's a definitive list of ingredients for a michelada. i see no reason you couldn't add some tequila.

for my recipe:

build in a salt rimmed pint glass filled with ice

juice of half a small lime (or mexican lemon)
a shake of worcestershire sauce
a shake of soy sauce
a few shakes of tabasco
fill with a dark mexican beer such as negra modelo
garnish with coarse ground black pepper

continue to add beer as you drink

There's no such thing as "greatest" beer cocktails.

Only extant.

Clicked the link to make sure Black Velvet made the list. This one made for one HELL of a St. Pattie's.

No Snakebite and Black? Tsk, tsk.

With Stone coming out with a shandy this year, I'm surprised there hasn't been more hype around shiatty mixed beer drinks.

2013-06-14 06:04:48 AM
Is there something wrong with your beer that you need to add things to it to make it palatable?

Apparently a black & tan is a cocktail

cock·tail
/ˈkäkˌtāl/
Noun
1. An alcoholic drink consisting of a spirit or several spirits mixed with other ingredients, such as fruit juice, lemonade, or cream.
2. A mixture of substances or factors, esp. when dangerous or unpleasant in its effects.

I'm going with the second definition.

What's with throwing a beer in a margarita all of a sudden?

I'm fishin' in my boat and I'm fishin' for trout, mix the Bass ale with the Guinness stout.

Well you figure much of the population drinks piss pilsners that are either tasteless (lite) or heinous (bud). While beer cocktail is obviously an oxymoron to sensible people, I cant blame these types for trying to put flavor in their beer. Sadly, too few people know the glory of real beer... You think these chumps would be pouring condiments into their brew if they had some prime stout or pale in their fridges?

Beer cocktails? Farking hipsters, right? This is why we can't have nice things.

/your blog sucks

except for the black and tan, if you drink any of those you deserve multiple groin punches.

I'm a big fan of the pinta.

You take a pint glass and fill it with your favorite beer.

It is best drunk on hot days and cold days. Rainy days and sunny days and overcast days really bring out the flavors of this beer cocktail. It pairs well with any kind of food and weighs in at a 4.5 - 10% ABV.

I'm not sure who invented it, but it's a great spin on the same old same old beer cocktail.

So what you're saying is that it's OK to put ketchup on a hamburger but not on a Filet?

If the shiat you drink isnt terrible, you dont have to add random garbage to it to make it more enjoyable. I can understand how someone would spike Bud Lite with something, its why those micheladas have any popularity. Even anchovies and asparagus would give that beer character. But have you ever seen people pouring anything into their IPAs and barleywines to "spice them up?"

/Also, black and tan, or the wheat/ale mixtures, are not cocktails. Its 2 mixed beers

False.  There is no such thing as a great or even good "beer cocktail".

Around here a Black Velvet is Guinness and cider and I enjoy them.  Guess cider is the poor mans version of champagne.

What a bunch of pretentious crap.

Mechaleda:  PBR or Miller Lite in a cold pint glass.  Drink about an 1/8 of it while the bartender stands there.  Demand some bloody mary mix to top it off, or pull a can of Clamato out of your pocket, and dump in what fits.  Top with an ice cube or two to cool it a bit.

All that fancy beer they added isn't the reason for a beer coctail.  A beer coctail is to make crappy beer a little interesting when you've not got a whole lot to work with.

Where is the Guinness milk shake or Guinness ice cream float? This list fails.

Do regular bars even serve chilled pint glasses or PBR? Also, is it normal to "demand" stuff from bartenders, or carry Clamato in your pocket?

Skip 'n' Go Naked is the best beer cocktail.  It is also appropriately named.

My wife drinks beer and Clamato juice, makes me want to puke every time I see her do that.

I went to a place recently that put bitters on top of a pint of Young's Double Chocolate Stout.
It was amazing.

Oh, come out you black and tans,
Come out and fight me like a man
Show your wives how you won medals down in Flanders
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away,
From the green and lovely lanes in Killashandra.

Years ago, during a trip to Eindhoven, I accidentally taught the Dutch how to make "Lunch Boxes."  Drop a shot of amaretto into a glass of beer and orange juice.

Hangman's Blood sounds like a quick trip to the hospital.

I'm no expert but...: No Snakebite and Black? Tsk, tsk.

Red Witch

Snakebite and Black with a slug each of chartreuse and vodka.

Refreshing, slightly camomile flavour, very lethal.

Never drink these while sitting down, you won't be able to stand up.

I think that explains it.

Scots have iron stomachs, and because they can tolerate all sorts of culinary evil, they can taste all sorts of subtle flavors without that nasty bile getting in the way.

list incomplete with a Crown Float (Guinness with Strongbow Cider)

Also, stout and lager is really and "half and half".  Also popular in Germany.  A Black and Tan is a dark stout with a lighter ale.  The proper substitute for Harp Lager is a New Castle Brown Ale.  Which will give you a true Black and Tan.

Yes, I am a beer expert.

The proper name for this is a Crown Float.  Guinness/Strongbow in a 3:1 ratio.

They do drink Iron Brew and whisky.

Seems rather presumptuous to claim pink kryptonite turns him gay.

For all we know it merely changed Superman's gender identity but not her orientation.
