For some reason the expression on Downey's face there made me laugh like a loon.

And when did Robert Downey Jr turn into Bernard Sumner?

That's what nailed it for me.

And when did Robert Downey Jr turn into Bernard Sumner?

Right after Johnny Marr called him up and offered to make another album with him.

Who lets their 18th month old watch Ironman. Bit violent to be showing a kid of that age, aint it? Even the kids cartoons are aimed at older kids.

2013-06-13 10:36:20 PM
It's a Chav baby, so no need to worry about disappointing the kid.

Nonsense. An 18-month-old doesn't have the mental capacity to connect a guy on the street to the guy in costume on the screen.

He wanted to meet the guy who played Rodney Dangerfield's kid in "Back to School," not the guy who played Rodney Dangerfield's kid's roommate.

It's interesting how the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the default view of Marvel in the public's eye.  Iron Man was a relatively minor hero until the movies, the Sam Jackson Nick Fury is now considered the default, and Coulson has pulled a Harley Quinn and moved into the mainstream Marvel Universe.

The best selling Marvel books sell, what, 120,000 copies? The movies reach a MUCH wider audience. They win.

FTFY.

Though honestly, the success of a movie has nothing to do witrh the success of a comic. Iron Man never really became a hugely successful comic after the movie hit, IIRC it just kept plodding along at around 40-50k in sales.

Iron Man has been considered one of the most central characters of the Marvel Universe for about 50 years. The SLJ version of Fury was invented about a decade ago, specifically based on him. Coulson just won the lottery.

Well, sounds like the kid's mother is to blame. As if a boy that age is going to be impressed at the sight of an actor without a costume.

Good on RDJ for trying to help.

The kid's hairstyle brings up a point I often ponder.

At what age does a mohawk go from indicating that the parents are dicks to indicating the wearer is one?

Is downey in a movie about Hitler with that hairstyle?

except that as soon as RDJ started talking, the kid recognized the voice and realized that yep, this here is Tony Stark.

Seriously.  How does that dude do enough drugs to OD a small country and still look that hot?

In the comics, he was a very uninteresting character. Oh, a guy wearing armor, so amazing. When you are teamed up with guys with laserbeam eyes and mutant DNA, its hard to steal the show.

It took RDJ to make Ironman significant.

Outside of the comics, Iron Man never had the kind of mass market appeal of Spider-Man or The Hulk.  It was the movies that made him an icon.

Honestly, I have never understood why they keep making Hulk stand-alone movies.  The character is best used in a setting where he is not the main character.  He was awesome in the Avengers.  The only reason, I think, was the old popular tv show, which is just unwatchable now.

For me it'd be his brains with a younger George Clooney's body.  Or with Sandra Bullock's body. <3
