Alphax: I didn't even think Terminator 2 was very good.  The original had a good, self contained story with no paradox.  I didn't bother with T3 or later.. save for the Sarah Connor Chronicles pilot episode.

I'm kind of with you. I enjoyed T2 and thought it was a good movie, but I didn't like it as a continuation from the first movie.

I've seen them all, and they basically come across more and more like fan-fiction as they progress.

mamoru: skinink: Terminator 5, where the robots do it the right way this time and kill Sara Connor when she is just a child.

Only works if they decide to break canon even more than they already have. Reese mentions in the first movie that there were few records from before the war, so Skynet basically chose a time when it knew whereabouts Sarah Connor lived and then work from there. Reese was able to find her immediately because John Conner just told him.

Based on that, I don't think Skynet could have found Sarah as a child to kill her.

You're right. Although I'm not sure why Skynet didn't send the first Terminator back with a thermonuclear bomb inside it to self detonate upon identifying and being in the vicinity of the last "Sarah Connor" is a bit puzzling.
/Maybe humans are more ingenious when it comes to killing humans than robots are.

Tsar_Bomba1: It was one big mess...

Agreed, but I can't help but like the film for a few reasons, despite the mess.

Most notably- A10 warthogs blasting terminators. I always wanted a terminator movie based on the post-judgement day events, and those A10s in the opening sequence and then about mid-way through gave me some serious nerdwood.

Cyberdine's headquarters were also in LA.  You wouldn't want to risk blowing them or any key employees up, and at a popular club like TechNoir, even a small bomb risks that.

/ Sure, he caused a lot of collateral damage anyhow, but not as much as a bomb would have.

I gotta agree with this. While the movie was a big mess, it was a FUN big mess. I treat it as fairly well done fan fiction. ;)

Fer f**k sakes! Ahnold, Willis, Stallone - act yer age!
I'm getting mighty sick of these `we still got it' boomer movies showing old farts like me still kicking ass.
Hell, I'm lucky if I can mow the goddamn lawn without serious strain &/or injury - and don't get me started on how many times I have to pee during the night!

Yeah, in the mid 90s when they were opening Planet Hollywoods, I was like, "it'd be cool if they were in a movie together!". that was the mid 90s.

FrancoFile: In this one he says "I threw out my back"

Therion: There was Terminator, and the most excellent Terminator 2.  period.

Confabulat: The Christian Bale rant was the most memorable thing about that movie.

bdub77: Here's my proposed plot for Terminator 5: someone goes back in time and murders the persons responsible for writing the Terminator 3 and 4 scripts. Bonus points if that person is Robert Patrick.

I love this thread so much.

Setitie: I would imagine it will be like Tron Legacy and how CLUE was portrayed.

I wasn't all that impressed at first, but TRON Legacy has improved with repeated viewings... except for Clu.

CSB:  I was once talking to my roommate about The Big Lebowski and how Jeff Bridges is great in everything he's in.  He countered that with, "Oh yeah?  What about TRON Legacy?"  After I stopped shivering, I meekly said, "That wasn't him, that was just some creepy CG version of him with dead eyes and a dead lip."

Of course Arnold seems so full of Botox now, maybe in his case it wouldn't be so bad.

In to say T3 was great.

That is all.

that was my nickname in highschool: relaxitsjustme: I honestly didn't know there was a Terminator 4

There kinda wasn't.  There was hardly even a third.

What are you talking about the third movie was the best.

The first one was a straight up monster horror movie.

The second was an action adventure that asked the question can you change your fate and had an awesome tag line "No Fate But What You Make."

The third was the big payoff and the reason most people hate it is because it overturns the second movie. The third movie says clearly you can not change your fate, your destiny is set, history is all ready recorded.

The fourth well that was a farking mess, I expect no better out of the fifth.

I liked the third one, but I don't think it was at the same level as the first two.  As a story, sure, and it had some great moments ("My database does not encompass the dynamics of human pair bonding.") but it just didn't have the same punch.

The fourth just irritates me.  I can hardly even remember what it was about.  But whenever I catch a minute or two of it on tv just the sound of it drives me nuts.  I don't know what they were going for there--something other wordly, perhaps--but it's grating to my ears.

Word is that the script was totally redone after (a) Christian Bale demanded his role be bigger (Connor was actually not meant to be the focus of the film) and (b) the ending leaked before the film was finished so they changed it for the hell of it.
I think originally Connor was meant to die and his skin was put onto the good Terminator who then 'became' John Connor and led the resistance.

Man, I wonder if the original script has popped up anywhere like it did for Prometheus.

You're welcome.

Lots of scripts on that site are early drafts.
