Heh...this thread reminds me of the old joke about newspapers (for you younger Farkers, a newspaper was something we printed data on daily):

The Washington Post is read by people who run the country.

The New York Times is read by people too busy to run the country.

The Boston Globe is read by people whose families USED to run the country.

The Miami Herald is read by people who used to run OTHER countries.

I'd throw in some West Coast lines, but I don't think they ever read anything besides Variety  :)

Meh, they ain't nothin, nothin!!!

Real men have the city move the farking fire hydrant in front of your town home to accross the street in front of the asshole's town home next door so you can have your own space closer to home.

As a San diegan, San Diego is not a city. That would be farking ridiculous. When you can't tell if you're living in the sticks or inside the incorporated area, that's not a city. Boston is a city, barely.

SirEattonHogg: Well, I think we're arguing oranges and apples here.  Is San Diego a city in the same league as Singapore, London, New York?   Are we talking population?  Are we talking about its perception by others as a cosmopolitan world class town?

I'm not trying to belittle San Diego and its civic pride, but if we are talking about the later measure - I'd say its a major west coast city... nothing more.

bmihura:   San Diego is not a city; like its big sister LA, it is merely a federation of neighborhoods.

So, you're saying Los Angeles is not a world class city the likes of NYC, London, Hong Kong, etc?  People may hate LA (actually a lot of people hate it) and its idea of urban development/sprawl, but to say its not a first tier city is a wrong statement on almost every level.  Just because it decided to go a different way about it than more traditional cities means nothing.

No one would argue that LA is a world class city. It isn't.

Hong Kong, London, NYC, Singapore, Mumbai, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow, Shanghai, some argue Berlin, etc are world cities. LA is comparable to like Florence or Madrid. Lovely cities no doubt, but world cities are another thing entirely.

You call Boston massively overpopulated, but think HK, LA, SD and Singapore are just wonderful? You're an even bigger moron than I had you pegged for. Stay in Providence, kid; you'll never be ready for the big time.

Yawn. Aren't you the idiot who said SAN DIAGO wasn't a city? Lets see:

LibertyHiller: San Diego is not a city; like its big sister LA, it is merely a federation of neighborhoods.

Ooooh, even italicized "not" to make it crystal clear. But please, backpeddle and try to justify such stupidity.

Quite amusing someone who was so easily proved to be so ignorant throwing around names. :)

Looking at your "Where I have been" map,  I've traveled more than you and seen more actually big cities. I've been to every country you're been to, and far more. Years in the Navy and traveling in South America after will do that. So much for your "Big time" comment, small fry.

This argument is funny.
