If this turns into a blowout and the Heat are facing the genuine possibility of a 3-1 hole, who else expects D-Wade to attempt homicide on the court against Danny Green or Kawhi Leonard?

Over/under on when Kawhi Leonard gets his 2nd foul: 7 minutes left in the 1st quarter. He should have done it Tuesday night, but I think you're going to see LeBron go into full "Screw you guys I'm taking over" mode early. Miami can't afford to let the Spurs get an early lead/let the crowd start rocking again.

The NBA is really, really stupid if they think they can call their basketball playoffs a "World Championship" without inviting the NHL, the UFC, or any SEC football teams.

2013-06-13 06:25:51 PM
My prediction: Tony Parker will be limited due to his hamstring pull. The Heat will play more aggressively, and as a result of their forays into the paint, will draw more fouls than in any of the previous three games (where they shot an incredibly low number of free throws). Farkers will complain that the NBA is rigged because they don't understand basketball.

Just found out today that since the 2-3-2 format began in 1985, the winner of game 3 has won every series except one--the 2011 Finals when the Heat won Gm 3 and lost the series. Not sure what my point is, but interesting stat nonetheless.

So will the second half be close at all? I still got a feeling we are in for a decent sized Heat win. This just feels like a James/Wade have around 25 each and someone on the Spurs picks up a dumb foul that kicks off a run.

Yes, it's easy to get decent cell phone pics when you're courtside at a game lit to NBA standards.

And still, the pictures kinda suck.  Let me sit there with my DSLR.

That's what I'm feeling, too. Much as I'd like to see the Heat with their backs against the wall, I think they'll win comfortably tonight.

No, rolling over after sliding with the ball is {supposed to be} traveling. In the NBA.  This is a simple fact.  Read your rulebook.  Assuming your LeJock sticky fingers don't ruin the pages.

Yeah when the Heat are depending on Miller's scoring to keep them in the game they are in trouble. Not to say Miller isn't a good player, but on this team points from him should be an added bonus, not something they are depending on to keep them in the game.

Miller played some good defense, too, though. Except for the time when he and Chalmers couldn't figure out who they were covering and gave Parker an easy drive. But yeah, even when he's not doing anything...you notice his man doesn't go leave him to help on cutters. It was very important to have him on the court.

Especially since no one's worried about Battier hitting shots anymore.

from nba.com

"To start a dribble after establishing a pivot foot, the ball must be released from the player's hand before his pivot foot leaves the floor or he has committed a traveling violation. A player who receives the ball while moving is allowed a two count rhythm but must release the ball prior to the third step touching the floor. When ending his dribble a player may use a two count rhythm in coming to a stop, passing or shooting. A player who fall s to the floor while holding the ball or while coming to a stop may not gain an advantage by rolling on the floor. A player who attempts a shot may not be the first to touch the ball if it fails to touch the backboard, rim or another player. If a player comes to a stop on the count of one when both feet are on the floor or touch the floor simultaneously, he may pivot using either foot as his pivot. If he alights with both feet he must release the ball before either foot touches the floor. If a player has one foot on the floor or lands with one foot first to the floor, he may only pivot with that foot. Once that foot is lifted from the floor to shoot or pass it may not return until the ball is released. If a player jumps off one foot on the count of one he may land with both feet simultaneously for count two. In this situation, the player may not pivot with either foot and if one or both feet leave the floor the ball must be released before either return to the floor. When a player gathers the ball he may not step consecutively with the same foot, as in a hopping motion."

Gonna have to show that he gained an advantage. Kinda stupid to claim that you can call a timeout into the floor and that you're not allowed to show the refs the signal. But you've kinda been stupid about the whole thing anyway.

Look, the Spurs were never going to win this game.  No use crying about it, just accept the fact that this is going 7 games.  Enjoy the ride, it will be over soon.  The NBA has already picked the winner.

2013-06-14 12:05:10 AM
This was a weird game. The Heat won with midrange jumpers from the big three. Something the Spurs have been begging them to try all series. Until now, the Heat proven completely unable to capitalize on open looks from 15+, especially Wade and Lebron -- but they got it today.

So, what happens next is hard to predict... Wade exploded but that probably wont happen again. Bosh was efficient, but he's been inconsistent. And Lebron hit everything from midrange but still didn't get to the line, how often is that a wining strategy?

2013-06-14 12:05:33 AM
I'm pretty red-assed at that display of bed-shiatting from Ginobili. Dude has been a liability all series. Except for a couple dunks in game 3, he's been pretty bad since round 2. I'm ready to give his minutes to Neal and for him to be on a very short leash.

Since you can't link:

Miami has averaged 24.1 FTs/game, and surrendered 24.1 FTs/game
San Antonio has averaged 20.2 FTs/game, and surrendered 19.6 FTs/game

So that does a good job explaining Miami's 17 FTs...what about San Antonio's 31?

/refs simply called more fouls on whoever was ahead

They WERE the best midrange team in the league this season. Just haven't made their shots from there until this game, despite being given those shots.

TheManofPA: JerseyTim: TheManofPA: I like the power beats-LBJ commercial. As hoops commercials go, it's a pretty good one.

I like how he's not hiding his hairline with a headband.

Honestly, LBJ should start going more for the Duncan look and just keep it short/tight. He could pull it off.

He wears the headband because he's worn a headband his entire career, all the way back to HS. And wearing a headband with a shaved head looks even stupider.

kingflower: Refs are going to make sure that the Heat win tonight.  The script says that Miami wins by 9, and shoots 14 more free throws than the Spurs.

Got the FTs backwards. But you're a whiny Jordan fan, so that's to be expected. Jordan would've gotten 70 FTs on his own, of course.

I like when people act all sarcastic about this.  If you had ever read any of the college textbooks written by Nike University, you would know that Michael Jordan personally asked the league to scrutinize his play.  Michael Jordan played by the honor code.  If he traveled, then he would admit this.  He did not want to be treated like a superstar.  He wanted to be treated like a human being.  That's all Michael asked for.

Leader O'Cola: A player who fall s to the floor while holding the ball or while coming to a stop may not gain an advantage by rolling on the floor.

I'm glad you looked that up, it's a rule I was not familiar with. Still, given the number of times I've seen players on the ground roll to call timeout and not be called for travel, I have to think that the rule book is ruling out rolling down the court sideways.

Not complaining. Pointing out that you can't expect people to get to the line a ton against the Spurs because it's virtually impossible. James and Wade were attacking as much as anyone does last night, and shot 4 FTs apiece. The Spurs do a good job of not getting called for fouls and not doing the stupid things that Wade and Chalmers sometimes do (letting guys get by you and slapping at the ball around the player), and they don't take many of the intentional fouls to prevent basketball that the Bulls do.

Which, honestly, should be encouraged. That would be hilarious.

Please note, the fans of these teams have absolutely no right to complain about the refs ever.

1) Boston Celtics.
2) LA Lakers
3) SA Spurs
4) Chicago Bulls
5) Miami Heat
6) NY Knicks.

You guys make the whiny middle-class-white men seem like the epitome of stoicism.

Who was complaining?

Ah, never mind, Komplex, now that I've gone through the whole thread, you were clearly referring to the number of "Spurs fans" (mostly actually fans of other teams that just want the Heat to lose) whining about the refereeing in a game because calls went both ways instead of only against the Heat like they're supposed to to prove the league isn't rigged.

Because when two superstars aggressively go to the rim over and over and come away with four whole FTs each, that's proof that the refs are giving them the game.

BTW, if you think Van Gundy's in the tank for the Heat, you're retarded. How many times do they show Tony Parker's sometimes-multiple-flops-in-a-defensive-possession plays? No, but every time any Miami player falls down, we get a slo-mo shot with Van Gundy most likely declaring it a flop. Of course, Neal apparently wasn't flopping according to Van Gundy (which honestly, he was selling the call, just like, say, Battier, though Ginobili pretty much cemented that call by pushing through with his elbow and full arm).
