Technically I don't, right?  It's still the cornea.  It's not like they discovered a second butthole or something.

A new body part was discovered? How long did it take for someone to develop a fetish around it/have sex with it?

It's not a unknown body part, Mrs. Henry. It's a "penis" - and you used to be rather fond of it.

Probably a few minutes after it was discovered.

Scientists have discovered a new body part, which they have named the Glob.

They are somewhat embarrassed that the new organ weighs 35 pounds and has been hiding in plain site in the bellies of beer drinkers and other locally "obese" people.

For the Glob is largely made of bad fat and it likes to build up in one place, usually the most inconvenient place it can find.

It causes beer-bellies, great wobbly seas of cellulite on the hips of otherwise normal women, and in the case of politicians and pundits, fat heads.

How did we miss it? Well, respond the scientists, basically we thought that all these fatties were delusional and that their claim that their fat wasn't really theirs was denial. But it turns out that some people really do have large bones. Large, soft, wobbly bones in their stomachs or their buttocks.

Blame the Glob!

DubtodaIll: fark, wrong thread

But at least you were on the topic of optics in both threads. Wrong, but on topic, which is technically right, the best kind of right.

The prism was studied well before Newton's optics by the scholars of the Islamic world, etc. In fact, some near-sighted ancient Romans used natural crystals of quartz to correct their vision. They were just too vain to wear eye glasses so that invention had to wait for the Dutch and German telescope-makers to realize they could create a huge new market on land besides the sea captains who bought most of their instruments. Galileo made his own telescope, grinding the lenses himself, based on plans that he obtained from the Netherlands.

Grinding lenses is not all that difficult, just fiddly. There is evidence (in the form of a handful of examples) that lenses were made in Ancient times, and that perhaps they were used by jewelry makers to do very fine close work, including the melting of gold to create tiny balls of gold to ornament jewelry.

Humans are constantly forgetting advances, which forces many to re-invent the wheel, often literally.

Exactly. I mean it's not like we don't have millions of doctors looking at billions of eyes every year for decades using all sorts of advanced equipment.
