By the time I knocked on their door to ask permission to retrieve it they'd discovered the drone and were holding it captive under a pot in the kitchen.

That's funny.

nets, blankets, sheets, towels
take it in the house, sell it on ebay
if he shows up, shoot him or have him arrested for stalking
tell the police that he was taking pictures of your naked kids

in the very least, before returning it to him, break all the parts into little tiny pieces with a hammer

Do you intend to always sit in your house with the curtains closed? Even if you, theoretically, have a large enough yard that you wouldn't normally need to worry about people looking in?

Close the damned blinds.

Or use an airsoft/bb gun to destroy one or more of the rotors and capture the enemy aircraft; or a pool skimmer if its close enough.

That's illegal?

This. I'd love a nice flying target for my airsoft gun.

If you live in the country, a shotgun would be even more entertaining.

/oh damn man sorry, I was just cleaning it and it went off.

I am not a lawyer but I am pretty sure I read somewhere that he actually does not have the right to fly the drone over someone's property if the flight path is below the height of the highest part of a person's house.

...ask him to not fly his drone near our home. The man insisted that it is legal for him to fly an aerial drone over our yard and adjacent to our windows. He noted that the drone has a camera, which transmits images he viewed through a set of glasses. He purported to be doing "research". We are extremely concerned, as he could very easily be a criminal who plans to break into our house or a peeping-tom."

Not to sound internet tough-guy but if it were my house the guy would be pulling that drone out of his arse.

Somebody needs to come up with a pneumatic firearm that shoots a nice tight pattern of BBs. I'm thinking something in the realm of a paintball gun. Hmmm.

I insisted back that it was legal for me to shoot airsoft rounds out my window and invoke "finders keepers" when the dead drone crashed onto my property.

So is every un-manned flying object a "drone" now, or is that simply a toy helicopter with a camera on it?

One word.  Shotgun.  Just be sure to choose the legal target (that's the drone, not the operator).

Just get a Daisy... pump it 20 or 30 times... and pour a bunch of BB's down the barrel.

This is also how you make pigeons go away.

Sorry.  I will try not to let it happen again.

Also, I was just looking at the FAA website and by their rulings pilots flying any aircraft have to remain at least 500 feet from people or buildings (except when landing and taking off).

DroneShield. Hopefully DroneShield 2.0 will combine detection with some kind of surface-to-air missile.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of paparazzi using these.

They are currently closed almost all the time (I have a plasma tv) and when they aren't, I'm not walking about naked in front of the windows anyway.  Feel free to fly by with your drone.  I'm sure you'll get some great shots of me sitting on the couch watching tv for about 30 seconds before I close the blinds.

I think drone-peeping is for your more adventurous voyeur--the technological equivalent of the guy who sits directly behind you on an empty bus and leans over your shoulder. Part of the thrill for him is getting caught, or the possibility of getting caught.

Meanwhile, as you're loading up the shotgun and waiting for his drone to recharge, the kid who you paid to water the plants while you went on vacation last summer is watching you in HD from six different camera angles, courtesy of cameras the size of buttons that you won't find until you replace the HVAC system and probably won't even recognize then.

Am I wrong, Fark? Because it seems to me that these days if you've got $50 and two minutes in a room by yourself, you can basically turn someone's house into your own private reality show, with pretty much zero risk of detection.

Just sayin'. And no, this isn't my kink (I told you guys about the sheep thing), but it astonishes me that we don't hear more about it, and the only reason I can think of is that the people doing it are virtually never getting caught.

Nope, I played once back in the early eighties. Sounds like you may very well have a better idea with your condescending attitude. So please share your vast storehouse of knowledge instead of being an asshole.

I prefer smoke and a loud noise when I squeeze the trigger, but in this instance the neighbors might not appreciate it.

Please please please somebody fly a drone over my house. Please! I have a wide variety of solutions I'd like to try, many of which have been mentioned in this thread.

2013-06-13 01:24:04 PM
It should be relatively simple to create a small turret that will automatically cover a drone that gets too close in silly string.

2013-06-13 01:25:47 PM
Luckily my pool skimmer net has a 16' handle so if it can see into my window, I can snag it.  Finders keepers!

While I'd love to use my skeet skills on one of those (if I had such a douchey neighbor), in an actual neighborhood that's not really responsible.

I do wonder if that wasp spray that shoots 25' or so would fark up one of those things. A garden hose very likely would.
