downstairs:   We sold plenty when I was working for a grocery store in the 1990's.  I never quite understood the concept though.  You can get normal OJ anywhere

Not growing up in the late 80's and early 90's in Wisconsin.  It was always frozen OJ.

First time I ever had real OJ, man, that was a treat.

Yeah, growing up in the 80s, my mom always made it from the frozen.  Always way too watery.  Yuck.

SirEattonHogg: StopKing:   Oh man i used to love tang so much I ate it by the spoon.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this before.  I didn't like drinking it as a kid, but man I loved eating it raw.

It's like pixie sticks, except its a whole freaking jar of it!

Glad I wasn't the only one. That and instant hot chocolate powder were awesome!

I still like Tang -- mix it with instant tea, sugar, cinnamon and ground cloves. Add about four spoonfuls of that to hot water and it's a great spiced orange tea.

I wonder what happens when you mix Tang and Vegemite together.

Tang was definitely better than frozen, concentrated orange juice. Dunno if I'd still like it today, but I sure did as a kid.

The old Tropicana Twister? Not the kind you get now already mixed in bottles like soda.

[ct.mywebgrocer.com image 144x78]

These were awesome indeed.

You guys can't get concentrated juice anymore? Really?  It's pretty common around here.

Haven't seen the frozen kind that comes out in the shape of the can in quite some time. I know Dole and some other brands exist but it was specifically the Tropicana Twister (Orange/Strawberry/Banana) mix that was the best by far.

The Tropicana Twister from the can/bottle premixed tastes crappy in comparison.

I'm in the Northeast US and it's everywhere here. Oj, that is. I don't know about Tropicana Twister specifically, because I don't drink it.

It's every where here too.  I'm in the Southwest US and most super markets here have at least a freezer door or two with nothing but juice concentrate cans.  All kinds, and most brands that were available when I was a kid.  We also have have the fresh(ish) juice in the dairy sections as well.  We pretty much have the same selections we've always had here.  Heck, you can even find it in some of the smaller Mom&Pop shops too.

Where are you people at that can't find the juice concentrate cans?

The UK. Disappeared from the stores years ago.

How is concentrted juice not 'real'? I's the freshest juice you can get.

Yes, Nesquick for me. It was the rabbit and the big Q around its neck.  On TV ads and in the comics.
I was more partial to their strawberry Nesquick powder.

Childhood cocaine really.

I think the frozen concentrated OJ market crashed sometime in 1983.

Storage space. With growing kids, it's hard to find room in the fridge. But I can fit 6 cans of concentrate in the freezer door. Also, shelf life.

MisterRonbo: Satan's Bunny Slippers: I liked Tang as a kid.  I know, I know.....I wonder if that plays some part in my affection for "sour" drinks as an adult.  I really do not like any sweet drinks, and my fallback is water with lemon (Lots and lots and lots of lemon. ) or fresh grapefruit juice no sweetener.

I loved the stuff as a kid, and never was much for soda.  Maybe its why I like tonic water and Collins mix to this day. My friends in high school used to think it was hilarious for some reason that I drank Collins mix, like it was some upper class affectation. But really, I just like my drinks the way I like my women - strong and bitter.

What the fark is the point of buying collins mix (aka sour mix)? It's farking lemon juice and sugar. Actually, it's supposed to be lemon juice and sugar. It's actually fake lemon flavoring and HFCS. Why not just keep a large bottle of lemon juice and some sugar? Is mixing things with a spoon that hard?

*Psst*! Don't tell anyone, but most of that "normal OJ" is made from the exact same stuff you buy in the cans.

Really?  You can still buy it?  My gosh, it can't have improved since I was a kid.  Awful stuff.

My grandmother bought Tang and forced me to drink it because the "Astronauts drink it", ego it must be good.  The only time I remember liking it was frozen in ice cube trays with Popsicle sticks.  My grandfather, father and uncles also enjoyed the frozen version with vodka sans the sticks.

I used to buy #10 cans of tang and drink it by the quart. Not sure why I stopped. But I seemed to have lost my taste for it.
