Obama's Left Nut: Most of them are members of a national group of ATM's so you can get $$ out all over the place without a fee. Now that we mostly all have smart phones finding a participating ATM is not that big a deal.

My credit union pays any ATM fees, so I don't even need to bother finding one of theirs.

Debiting an account 300million or some ridiculous amount is how banks used to freeze accounts.

StrandedInAZ: WhiskeyBoy: /Switched to USAA
//Never been happier

I've been a USAA member (former military) for many years and can't second this enough. Now that anyone can bank with them, I'm constantly encouraging my friends and relatives who are still using B of A, Wells Fargo, Chase, etc., to switch. It's amazing how big of a difference basic customer service makes. I've never spoken to a rep there who wasn't helpful, friendly, and well-trained.

So I use USAA for most of my banking. I use a local credit union for the rest (including cash deposits, which you can't do with USAA). I tell people if they're not going to use USAA the next-best option is a local credit union. However, you need to be careful to choose one that's in the 21st century. The CU I had before I changed to my current CU had a website that looked like it was from the 1980s and had no mobile phone app either.

When someone tells me they've never had a problem with their big bank, I tell them that when and if they do have a problem they will regret not switching sooner. I've never had the problems with USAA that I hear about other banks' customers having.

USAA has a mortgage on one of my houses and Navy Federal the second.  I have never had another insurance company than USAA.  I love both USAA and NFCU so much! I am so glad I have never had to use a crappy BOA, Chase, or Suntrust type of deal.
