If you're unable to recall the quality of Tom Hardy's acting performances, it would be very painful...

for you.

It doesn't matter who he is, what matters is the movie.

This movie damn well better feature the best version of Rocket Man.

I heard Will Smith got his son to the top of the list for this movie

There's a big difference between Bane and Elton John.. if you think Tom Hardy can only play Bane.

And people who think he can only play Bane are wrong.

You should watch him play an alcoholic homeless man with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy in "Stuart: A Life Backwards".  It's a biography.  You should watch it anyway because it's a wonderful film, but he's fantastic in it.

And then of course there's Ricki Tarr in Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, Eames in Inception, and Handsome Bob in RocknRolla.  I think he'll do a fantastic Elton John.

If anything Bane was his worst role because his voice is messed up and you can't even see his face.  It wasn't really "acting" so much as standing around looking muscular and dubbing his voice in later.

Actually, having seen Hardy in TDKR with his goofy "Gather 'round children and let me read you the story of Rumbly Bumbly, the silly old bear" voice and sporting that big pimpin' fuzzy coat, I think he's a far better choice to play Elton John than Bane. Especially considering that while Batman wore a rubber codpiece over his junk, Hardy wore a rubber codpiece over his head. I don't like to spread rumors, but word is Mr. John may have had the occasional gentleman's specialty underthings pressed closely to his own mouth from time to time.

The only problem with this is that Hardy's not well hung enough to play Elton realisticially.

/Apparently, there's a reason the man's middle name is "Hercules".

He should do it in his Bane voice.

Tom Hardy?  Yes, please.  And the Blu-ray.

Subby, you're a tool. Hardy has put together some seriously solid work. Others have pointed this out already, so the only thing I am compelled to reiterate is that you are a tool. Tool. =)

Sir Elton John and Access Industries' Len Blavatnik are executive producing the film

Lost me right there.

Biopics with the protagonist involved in the production are nearly always shiatty egofests that remove anything about themselves that they don't like. Especially with Elton John's ego.

That said, Tom Hardy is terrific. And really, I'm the first to mention Bronson?

He's becoming one of my favorite actors. I really like Warrior and he did pretty well in that thingy with Lebouf

That should have been the first mention really.

Subby, you think the fail tag is your ally? Sounds like you were born in it, moulded by it.

Tat'dGreaser: I really like Warrior

It would have been a great 90 minute film. Wasn't it 2 1/2 hours long, or was that just how long it felt?

Seriously, you can either make the working class family attempting to overcome years of inner turmoil flick, or you can make the MMA flick that all the bros will wanna see. Don't try to make both in the same movie. PROTIP: Nobody will ever say of any movie ever made or ever to be made, "Don't you think we should have seen more Kurt Angle?"

I highly recommend Stuart: A Life Backwards as well. It's a great film and Hardy is amazing in it. It's on HBO GO for anyone who has access to that.

He's got some chops.

I'd heard that Justin Timberlake was going to take this role, which struck me as perfect casting. Tom Hardy is fantastic, however, and I'm sure he'll be great.

/He's fantastic in "Warrior" and "Rock 'n' Rolla".

//He sucked as Bane, due largely to the fact that that movie is an OVERRATED PIECE OF SH*T!!!!!

NOT hating on Tom Hardy, I think the man is an excellent actor, but he is on the verge of LeBoeuf levels of overexposure. Every time I turn around he's in another movie! That said, he is so great at what he does that all his characters are DIFFERENT!  His performance in "Lawless" was brilliant!

/I know, he ain't gonna sleep with me. Don't want him to
//but it WOULD be cool to sit down and have a beer or 12 with him.

If you're doing a good job, I think overexposure is less of a risk.  LeBoeuf was an issue because while the movies were blockbusters, he wasn't exactly the key to making them work.  His acting was below average at best, and the movies were generally lowest common denominator popcorn flicks.  That gets old really fast.  In addition, he's a world-class asshole in interviews.

Hardy is doing really solid movies, and he's a major piece in making them as good as they are.

And if you think Tom Hardy can only play Bane, youre an idiot, because there were 10x as many people before TDKR who hadnt seen Bronson who were like "How the hell is he going to play Bane?!"

Hes a great actor, ill watch him in anything.

Whatever happened to Justin Timberlake being in the running for playing Elton in his biopic?

He did a great job / looked a lot like him in the "This Train Don't Stop" video !

He was awful in Star Trek Nemesis (but everyone was, and the script was crap, so...)

But I'm picturing Elton John sitting a the piano, then turning to the audience and saying-- in Bane's voice-- "So... You'd like to 'croc-o-dile rock', would you? Slowly and surely I will entertain you, until there's no reason for you to return home."

/Bane sounds like Henry Kissinger on ludes.

I went to the theatre to watch it and woke up in the hospital with slashes up and down my arms like I got in a slap fight with Freddy Krueger.  Long story short, keep the baby and never heel ANYTHING down the drain!

Good actors can do all manner of different appearances. Look at Hardy's co-star Christian Bale, and compare him in The Machinist to Batman to The Fighter. Hardy's a good actor, so if he can get the physicality right, it would be fine.
