Walter Paisley: This coming from someone who claimed his prayers have diverted the paths of hurricanes. Robertson probably didn't think of the implications of such a claim: If his prayers prevent disasters from some storms, why not the others? Is he just selective in which areas he targets his prayers? If it's God's will that makes the difference, why does God want to let some people suffer the ravages of a natural disaster? If one were to believe Robertson's claims, then one would also have to accept that either Robertson or God is an asshole.

he and his ilk are proof that god does not exist
what kind of god wouldnt strike his ilk down for blasphemy and hubris??  :D

worse, he thinks it is ok to pray a hurricane away from his flock on to those heathens who live elsewhere, say on the east coast?

I hope his god exists, so that he can burn in hell for all eternity

Pat Robertson's prophecies at Quiverfull

The country is in great peril-it will come a financial reckoning, debts called in, money devalued, people on fixed incomes will suffer.
Creditors will seize assets to pay back debts.
It will be a time of great turmoil.
God says to get out of debt and hold all your purchasing to a bare minimum to prepare for those times.
God's glory will shine everything.
Many will turn to  God and many will curse and revile God.
It will be a time of great division with the worse rebellions and turmoil ever seen before.
It will be a time of miracles and favor for CBN but very tough of people who don't know God and live in the world.-

Calmamity: I've been waiting for him to explain all the tornadoes in Oklahoma.

"I don't know where they come from, but this is not the way God wants it to be."

Says who?

It's some god who can't get what he wants.  I'm not impressed.

Personally, I hope when Robertson finally goes, his death is slow and painful.  This guy has spewed so much ignorant hate speech and accumulated so much wealth from his "holy" 700 club.  He's even worse than those big-bank CEOs since people are being duped into giving him their money willingly under the guise of helping the less fortunate.

Mrs.Sharpier: *sigh*

Not ironic. Jesus Christ, the word just needs to be banished.

Don't blame the word.  It's not the word's fault - the word did nothing wrong.

Not to further anger the Irony Police, but residents of a country that elected G.W. Bush president (twice) and made Kim Kardashian a celebrity are no longer in a position to say whether there is or isn't an incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs.

However, Robertson did counsel Merin to leave her congregation out of worry over the predictions of two people who spoke in tongues and warned fellow parishoners about future perils.

If those people are speaking in tongues, how can anyone tell what they're predicting?  Or whether they're predicting anything at all?

///couldn't someone speaking in tongues just be repeating "I like Swiss cheese" over and over, and no one would know?

The first time I heard someone speaking in tongues was at 14, I thought they were having a seizure.

Then, when I left the church at 18, I realized they were just full of shiat.

But did you have to hear adults singing in baby voices for Jesus? The speaking in tongues thing is kind of strange, but there are some fundie performers who could pass for avant-garde or outsider art.

I can't remember the name of it, but a book I read about right wing figures had a profile of Robertson that was kind of eye opening.  The author followed him around for several days and event went with Robinson on his plane somewhere.  Pat never opened a Bible once, but apparently he was constantly reading the Wall Street Journal.

just gonna leave that here...

if you agree to a label, you will carry it with you...  i was raised lutheran(protestant-elca) and i believe in the message of christ.  this being said, i DON'T believe that anyone else is automatically wrong...  interpretation is everything... and listening is step one.  patty up there isn't listening, just spewing dogma... and getting paid for it.

Holy shiat, I forgot about that movie. That's hilarious, the new cover art looks like Tom Hanks is going into a maze and kick some monster ass.

Hypocrisy requires that you believe something to be wrong and you do it anyway.  Pat truly believes that his belief in the Lord is legitimate and not crazy.

To outsiders who see his religious beliefs as bunk and of similar type as disaster prophets, this becomes irony.  Thus I support the Ironic tag.

kid_icarus: (Grew up in a household that watched these shows) It may seem impossible to believe that regular viewers of this show would miss the obvious hypocrisy here, but trust me when I say it went right over their heads and never even registered. To them, Pat is a *true* prophet. They actually applaud him for having the courage to call out those *false* doomsday prophets. It's total insane backward logic that could never make sense unless you were in the cult.

Grew up watching TBN and the Crouch circus. Also spent a couple of summers as a kid all day at a Christian book store my mom worked at, with nothing to do but read a lot. Amassed a lot of information and brainwashing early on, managed to finally get out from under it in college. To the followers of Pat, Paul and Jan, and the rest of the charlatans, they can do no wrong.
