Car_Ramrod: I think hashtags are extremely useful and convenient for Twitter and Instagram, where I'm down for scanning commentary/pictures from strangers on a specific topic I'm interested in, but it makes no sense for Facebook. I can just check my News Feed to see what my friends are saying. Unless you have thousands of friends and can't wade through your News Feed.

They aren't for you.  They are so that users will categorize their posts so that that Facebook can make more money selling better targeted ads.
