They're horrible people.  But then we already knew that.

Guns are still legal, gays are mostly illegal, they don't really have much else to work with.

I guess this could provide a few ultrasound jobs.

The state shouldn't have been dressed like that.

Hey, anyone got a shot of the Walker supporter with the cap?  Can't seem to GIS him.

This is...breathtaking, if only for the GOP Senator-lady's complete lack of shame or self-awareness:
Vinehout said that she had been touched by the letters because she had also been a victim of sexual assault at the age of 15.
"And if we truly want to make abortion rare, Mr. President, why are we defunding Planned Parenthood?" the Alma Democrat asked.
Republican state Sen. Mary Lazich, who sponsored the legislation, however, encouraged her fellow lawmakers to ignore "the theatrics surrounding" Vinehout's presentation and then launched into an impassioned speech of her own.
"If you have a loved one that's thinking about terminating their pregnancy, for crying out loud, you want them to have full information, you want them to have an ultrasound, you want them to know what's going on in that womb and what they're doing, and that they're not going to be able to change that for the rest of their life!" she exclaimed. "They make that decision, it's over! It's over in a few minutes. And then later on they can live with the fact that they terminated their pregnancy and it was the best thing for them or they killed their child and they made a horrific decision and they regret it and they wish they never would have done it!"

You know that Cthulhu "why vote for the lesser evil" campaign poster? Can someone with Photoshop skills make a "Cthulhu drops out of election, can't compete with modern GOP" headline?

Also, can anyone remember the last time an impassioned speech ever changed the way a state or US senator voted on anything?

Even the Chamber of Commerce thinks he's doing a sucktastic job.

But at least they got their women folk oppressed.  So it's all good, right?

Zero sympathy for the cheeseheads from me. They elected this dude TWICE now. They sow the derp, so shall they reap the derp.

This is why people blame Obama for a lot of things.

Many wonder why the AP story and the IRS was put at his doorstep.

Its because he is the captain of the ship

What is wrong with WI is on the shoulders of Walker. Its his mess.

Transvaginal ultrasounds for every legislator that supports the bill, ESPECIALLY MEN. They should have full information on what's going on in there before they make such an important vote.

Triple Oak: This state is falling apart from the top down. Ugh

Wisconsin is rapidly becoming the new Mississippi. Don't blame the government. The morons here are doing a fine job sending it that direction without Scott Walker's help. It's becoming the state the rednecks always wanted. A shiat hole.

We'll torture all the raped women, because that's what Jesus wants us to do!

Seriously, these people own bibles, but they've been far too busy using them to bludgeon people to be bothered with reading them.

Wisconsin used to be a fairly progressive state.  Not really sure what happened there.  I left and the place went to hell.  Please tell me they still drink beer there!

In the words of a Republican asshole: they're "pond scum".

I'm certain the Supreme Court will frown on these shenanigans.

Imagine requiring cystoscopies before any ED prescription could be issued.

Translation: "Wimmin are too stupid to understand what an abortion is! We must throw every unnecessary medical procedure, scripted conversation, and delay at them to educate the poor dears! Better yet, let's leave the decision up to their husbands, boyfriends, fathers, or anyone else with a penis!"

I don't understand the reasoning behind this.   They already know they are pregnant, hence the abortion, it's not like a "woah now let's make sure you're REALLY pregnant" thing.   Even if they have it, at an early stage it's hard to tell if you have a baby or a hungry stomach.

Listen to the heart if you can hear it over the sound of your stomach craving food

Wisconsin... Home to some of the most excellent miniature golf in the world. So many fine chocolates, cheeses, fire engines and toddler overalls. A fine tradition of polka, bratwurst, and beer. Birthplace of The Onion. How far you've fallen!

Organize, donate, vote. Get those peabrained zealots out of government.

In my day Republicans would say things like I'm blessed and thank the Lord because they want to look pious to the religious right.  Today Republicans are the religious right and the have absolute moral certainty that can not be question and can suffer no compromise.  A woman lets herself be raped then give her father 30 silver pieces, marry her off and move on.  Their compassionate god would have it no other way. Fanatics

It is about punishing women for having sex.  If a women has sex she either wanted it, which is wrong, or she tempted the man, which is wrong.

It is about using red tape to stop a constitutionally protected action.

People do it all the time. When there is a constitutionally protected action and someone doesnt like it that is when you get the most creativity.

They're just trying to punish them for having sex.  It's stupid, expensive and possibly dangerous medical procedure that needs to be banned unless actually needed.

They honestly believe that women are brainwashed or otherwise deceived into choosing an abortion. They think that the women will see the ultrasound/hear the heartbeat and break down, sobbing "I honestly didn't know I was going to murder my child!" or some such nonsense.

Look at this idiot who thinks woman don't understand exactly what an abortion is and does. In fact, I think pregnant women are the only ones who really CAN understand what an abortion is.

2013-06-12 03:57:24 PM
So Republicans usually try to give some sort of flimsy excuse about their stupidity: it's not homophobia, it's protecting the sanctity of marriage! it's not preventing minorities from voting, it's voter ID! etc, etc

What's the spin on this one? Doing the ultrasound to ensure that the woman is healthy enough for the abortion? Or is there no spin, and they're at least being honest with this?

2013-06-12 03:58:37 PM
Well, if they're gonna do something like this, they should at least put the first ultrasound any pregnant woman gets on the state's dime.

But no, that would be EEEEEEEBIL SOSHULIZM that encourages women to be sluts.

The problem (or not, I suppose, depending on which side you're on) is that exactly that will happen in a nonzero number of cases. Putting up even a small barrier will prevent some small number of people from continuing a given course of action.

Now, I don't like abortion (I don't think anyone does), but I certainly see it as the lesser evil in most situations and absolutely no one's business but the mother's prior to the limit of viability.

Bless my lack of comprehension here, but I've just never understood why so many supposedly-heterosexual men try so hard to keep women from having sex. What's next, Sailors Against Wind? Joggers Against Shorts? Steak Lovers Against Cattle Ranching? XBox Gamers Against Electricity?
