they talk about times in "Eastern time" as opposed to "local time." does that imply that they don't adjust the times to a standard local time before aggregating?  that could severely skew whatever point is attempting to be made.

I stay up wondering about all the cool shiat I can do on my Note 2, unlike Apple users who can sleep soundly knowing that they can't customize their shiny slab at all.

This reminds me with how annoyed I got at an app last night. It's the Boxer mail app that I had disabled the accounts on, but it still decided to give me a push notification in the middle of the night. Back to the stock mail app...

So Apple users are early risers.  That would explain the air of smugness and obliviousness Apple users have.

Well a lack of sleep would explain the attitude...

My roommate and I have iPhones and are gainfully employed and tend to sleep at night.

Our downstairs neighbours are underemployed hipsters with Androids and stay up until sunrise every night.

Therefore all Android users are hip and poor.

Apple's share of the traffic was 62% and Android's 38%, despite analyst estimates that Android devices now outnumber iOS in North America.

That's because a lot of those Android phones are not smart phones, and can't really do much.

it's more likely a function of the fact that they're measuring ad click-throughs from a single company. there might be demographic differences that lead to fewer click-throughs or the company could place ads more on iOS apps than android apps

--Are they counting activated phones as devices?  Activated phones is a better representation of actual users.  Too many cheap tablets running an old version of Android inflates the user base.  It also hurts Android because it skews pie charts to show too many devices still using an outdated version of OS.

I wonder which OS most IT staff are using?

If they have the device running for ticket resolution or other on call activities at night it could be a reason why.

There was an interview on Marketplace where a guy who studies this stuff found that most of the traffic from iOS were for the same page within some timeframe of each other. Then, it sorta hit them that this is because Safari on iOS kills tabs very aggressively and thus, when you swap back to a tab or the browser, it'll reload the page.

On my Galaxy S3, this rarely if ever happens. So a lot of that traffic is artificial because the browser on iOS refetches the page a lot more than most Android devices.

This doesn't make sense tho.  Why are there so many more hits when there should be fewer because those that downloaded the application don't count towards a web hit counter?  I'll give you 2 guesses which platform has more "website replacement" type applications!

Sleep is a fundamental component of animal biology. New evidence confirms that, in humans, its timing reflects intelligence. People with higher IQs (intelligence quotients) tend to be more active nocturnally, going to bed later, whereas those with lower IQs usually retire to bed sooner after nightfall.

This seems like an excuse that would get me into some shiat with my woman.

An ad company might be a useful way to get these metrics, except...adblock, which only the more savvy users would have installed.

Chrome is good. I prefer Atomic. Tabs, full-screen browsing, adblock, multitouch swipe to change/open/close tabs, skins (if you're into that sort of thing), hugely customizable (even the menus), easy privacy options, choice of search engines, choice of low-memory actions, Dropbox integration, better bookmark handling. The only thing I don't like about it is when you're in full-screen, the progress bar is this ridiculous overlay in the lower left. But that's a purely cosmetic complaint.

/full disclosure, it does bomb slightly more often than Safari or Chrome.

Speaking of Android devices, I decided to grab a Nook HD+ since the 32 GB is on sale for Father's Day for $179. I read a lot of digital comics, so I wanted something with a bigger, higher res screen than my current 7-in tablet but I didn't want to lay out the cash for a Nexus 10. With out of the box Google Play support now, even if I don't go to the trouble of rooting it, it seems like a killer tablet deal.

Well, if they're putting Android devices into the hands of enterprise users, that would probably explain the ticket traffic.

To be fair to Atomic, I use it 98% of the time, so it may just  seem like it bombs more since the others don't get much of a workout.

I bought two extra batteries for my S2, but I can't remember the last time I had to pop in a new one during the day.
(when I first got it, I needed to quite often. But after a few firmware upgrades, it's really doing stellar work battery-wise)

Even if what you say is true and you have broken it somehow, it won't be difficult to fix.
