Holy geez that article sucks.

Buying too much snack food? Is that some sort of ethics violation? DId he do it with city funds - knowing that would be crucial to understanding the article.

Police chief storing campaign signs? Are police chief's elected? That seems unusual. Was he storing his own, was he storing ones the cops took from the right of way.

Journalism school ain't what it used to be. Jospeh Pulitzer is spinning in his grave.

Yeah, the article needs a lot of clarification.

Unless he was using city funds for his snack food purchases I'm thinking the campaign sign issue seems like the bigger deal.  Even if he isn't an elected official they may have a law against government officers being involved in political campaigns.

Still, yeah, I'd just like to understand WTF went on.

I researched a bit, the snack foods were purchased for consumption on training days, truthfully that sounds like a reasonable expense to me. We often pay for lunch or snacks at work when we have training sessions.

It was about $900. I bet the audit cost 12K.

It's always nice to see the chief of police having such a good grasp on the law.

The Lawrence Runza now looks like a highway outpost from Mad Max, so you aren't missing much. It's a shame.

Well, thanks to the wonderful article, we know exactly what law was broken and how it was broken and why the Chief thought he was in the clear, and why he wasn't.

I thought that big necks were encouraged in cops, as it helps them to make a collar.

Sounds like small town politics.  He broke an unspoken law called he pissed someone off by not looking the other way at a certain time.  This is a warning shot to put him in his place before they consider firing him.

We had a little feud just south of us in Burton, MI, involving the mayor and the police chief.  The police chief was trying to help someone get the mayor out of office by arresting the mayor for DUI.  Charges didn't stick because the mayor was being driven in his car when pulled over for the 'DUI' arrest.  Mayor won and now Burton has a new police chief.
