Meh, people make granma go on the vent so they can keep collecting that check.  Happens more often than you think.

If someone needs to do to the emergency room you call an ambulance. The son should sue the doctor for negligence.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

So he cashed a bunch of checks first?  Maybe he thought he'd need the cash if he was taking his chronically ill mother to the hospital.  He rejected social workers offering to help his mother?  He probably assumed they would bill him for money he didn't have.

/everything costs money.

If we're being honest here, she had sores on her legs so severe that tendons were showing.  I'm going out on a limb here, but I bet it was the days, weeks or months of neglect that resulted in the need for her amputations and that the few hours it took to cash the checks wouldn't have mattered one way or the other.

I bet it stumped her how he remembered how she treated him as a kid, and he returned the favor.

I really do feel people who treat their parents with neglect was told to shut up and go away a lot when they were small.  Distance yourself from your kids, don't expect them to care much for you later.

Or better yet don't expect anyone to take care of you, period.

Full thickness decubitus ulcers will cause tunnels in your flesh down to the bone. A few hours wouldn't have made any difference, though the pain is excruciating. Odd that he would take her to a doctor for chest pains but not the open terrifying wounds on her legs. They would be weeping puss and smell very bad. It almost looks Iike somebody scooped out your flesh with a relish fork and then gave you frostbite.

That's the sort of the thing the residents are seeing. I hear some very bizzarre stories and sometimes maybe I'll get punched because somebody has decided that I owe them $8 because i stole their mother's skin. Some of them think I'm 2 or more different people. Some of them go catonic and growl for long periods of time.

I wouldn't have heeded the "doctor" either. Anyone who speaks like a caveman and claims to be a doctor is obviously a fraud. Or a foreigner, and they are obviously all terrorists.

I didn't think Social Security still issued checks, I thought it was entirely direct deposit these days.

Except the check you cash on the 3rd is for the next month, so you'll have to pay that one back if she dies.  The more you know.

Funny. I was thinking the exact same thing. She raised this piece of crap. I'm sure his home life when he was a little boy wasn't anything terribly pleasant.

I need to design a "Gramp-A-Mint(tm)" device that keeps a brain dead person (barely) alive for pennies a day.

I have feeling that as the Boomers age, there is going to be a demand for such a device.

However, a police report says that Bonelli instead took her directly to the bank, where he cashed two months of her Social Security cheaks and withdrew more cash from her account.

According to Urban Dictionary, that's "the mixture of Chicken and Steak in a meal. Made popular with its use in Chipotle burritos."  I'm assuming it rhymes with steak.

Spell check, journalists.  It's not hard.

I'm stumped as to why he didn't get crackin' as soon as he saw her legs. After this, she'll likely sever the relationship and cut him off. Oh, but he'll come crawling back and have a bone to pick.

There's a crime specifically called "elder exploitation"? How about the charities that repeatedly hound my grandfather? Can I call the police on them?

Here's the real lesson...

It sucks getting old. It just plain sucks and what you go through before you finally get to die makes death seem like a release and a blessing.

Perhaps they should amputate his legs too.  Oh, and castrate him.  Make sure that gene pool dries up.

If he had to cash 2 months of SS checks, I suspect he wasn't doing it for the money.

I also think that the extra 2 hours it took would not make one bit of difference in whether or not they had to amputate both legs.

Admittedly I am a little biased towards the guy as I took care of my Mom for 5 years after my Dad died so please believe me when I say it is not easy both mentally and physically and there is quite a hard toll in the fatigue department as well, and I have a family and a medical background.

Anyway, the guy may very well indeed be a selfish schmuck in it for Moms money, but then why did he not get it the moment she got it? And if he wasn't doing it for money what was his reason?
