So... a Turkey shoot?

I hope so.  I have a date in Constantinople.

I've actually been watching this feed for a couple hours now - they keep rotating through different parts of the city, some are relatively quiet, like where they are now, but other sections have had some pretty hard-core explosions, fires, and gun fights. Scary stuff indeed.

And to think, it all started because the citizens staged a sit-in to protest the city's plans to bulldoze a park and build a shopping mall.

2013-06-11 04:15:38 PM
Looks like RT has cut their feed for the time being; CNN is also airing a live feed here, although there is no audio.

That was just the last straw, though, wasn't it? It's about resistance to an ever-more corrupt and religious government.

Just let them have their damn park!

 It's about resistance to an ever-more corrupt and religious government.

And yet we sit here in the US and do nothing.  Mind you, im not pointing a finger at either of the two major political parties, but imo they are both to blame, in combination with an ever more placid population.  We literally have no balls left.

Do I have any short quick answers? Well hell no.  But this can't go on for ever.

I'm assuming the people sitting in the "circle"  are already arrested? Or is this part of the protest? Or are those sleeping cops?

The cops around the campfire look like they are having a grand ol time.

2013-06-11 05:22:53 PM
All I see are a bunch of cops hanging out around a fire.

But that would be giving in and showing weakness, things that a fascist strong government just can't do.

Uh, nice conclusion you draw there, guys...I was talking about the situation in the UNITED STATES.  We have corruption and idiocy at all levels of governance.

But if you want to shiat your pants over what *you think* I said, by all means...shiat away...

2013-06-11 05:27:59 PM
This morning I woke up in a curfew;
O God, I was a prisoner, too - yeah!
Could not recognize the faces standing over me;
They were all dressed in uniforms of brutality. Eh!

How many rivers do we have to cross,
Before we can talk to the boss? Eh!
All that we got, it seems we have lost;
We must have really paid the cost.

(That's why we gonna be)
Burnin' and a-lootin' tonight;
(Say we gonna burn and loot)
Burnin' and a-lootin' tonight;
(One more thing)
Burnin' all pollution tonight;
(Oh, yeah, yeah)
Burnin' all illusion tonight.

It's easy to draw a conclusion  when you're vague and post it in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the United States.

That a government would force conscripts, boys of 18 and 19, to turn on their fellow citizens like this? You don't find that obscene? It's like Kent State writ large.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot of men in the nation that retain them, so the statement is invalid.

Unless you mean the nation itself has no balls left. Which would have to be figuratively, since the nation never had balls.

Well, it would make about as much sense to talk about your favorite Terrence Malick films in this thread as it would to give such a vague vignette about the political climate stateside.

He's not refering to the nation as an entity or balls specifically. He is saying: We, very nearly/in effect/virtually, have no courage to stand up for ourselves.

Please look up the definition on virtually and get back to me.

The idoits have won.

But you know, just because it's in some online dictionary (which you haven't actually linked to, but whatever), doesn't change the fact that "literally" means  literally, and people who use it incorrectly are farkwits with such a tenuous grasp on language that they are apparently incapibile of finding the right words to describe any given situation.

It's messed up, but obscene isn't a word I would use.  Those 18 and 19 year old boys have the guns, they can turn them on their own government if they feel so bad about shooting their fellow citizens.

Yes, I am pissed off at some of the things our government is doing, but I don't think things have become bad enough for me to start protesting. No one has taken my property. Our tax rates are relatively low compared to what they've been during the time I've been an adult. I don't worry being incarcerated - I don't think anyone I know well has ever been incarcerated - at least not that I'm aware of. For now, life's pretty good - no need to create a ruckus. I have a feeling most Americans feel like I do.

It was a brilliant move by the Turkish government to import an endless supply of Muslims ... who then proceeded to turn their democracy into a theocracy (soon to be dictatorship).

2013-06-11 05:52:26 PM
I've been following this since things broke out.
Couldn't stand the inanity (is that a word?) of the CNN international broadcasters when I tuned in to a stream earlier today.

I've been following the protests through a couple of the facebook groups:

http://www.facebook.com/geziparkidirenisi

http://www.facebook.com/OccupyGezi

This is also a pretty good blog that I've been reading:
