wow that was two minutes of garbage

2013-06-11 02:57:00 PM
I've been calling Evangeline Lilly a wood elf for years.

I'm thinking that once again Hollywood's greed is ruining what could have been a good concise movie.

Some stories aren't meant to be nine hour epics.

Was I the only one who thought Smaug looked terrible?

The whole movie looks terrible. This one might be more boring than the last one.

Honestly, I fell asleep half way through the first one.  It was poorly paced.  Boring.  And there were needless changes... Whatevs.

smaug was in that trailer somewhere? wow.

Apparently, this is the negative thread for the trailer.  there is a more positive one further down the Commented page.

Whatever, Smaug will always look like that to me.

This.  It really needed to be a single 2.5-3 hour movie.  I think Jackson is pulling material from Tolkein's shopping lists to fill out these movies.

2013-06-11 05:05:40 PM
They pretty much lost me after they needlessly split the Hobbit into 3 movies purely for more money.

They really lost me when it was shown that you could read farther into the book than the movie did in the same time span.

He had Elves at the Battle of Helm's Deep.  Nothing can top that.

Wake me up in 2015 when the definitive fan edit, that follows the events of the book and nothing else, is done.

You are most welcome.

I only recently viewed the first of the trilogy of "The Hobbit" (why a trilogy? ticket sales.) & i have to admit, i wasn't as enthralled as i was when LOTR was in theaters.

/fell asleep
//will see the next one (at home)
///shut up & take my money

Nah, they could have done it right with just two movies, each about 2 hours long. Plenty of time for details and backstory and no need to fill 4 hours of action.

If they can do the Hobbit in 3 installments, they could bloody well have done Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire in LOTR.

2013-06-11 05:12:57 PM
I thought Smaug looked pretty frightening there at the end.  It's hard to get the scale right I'd imagine.

2013-06-11 05:13:28 PM
"Doctor Who" was in the first movie too so the window to biatch about that has long since closed, Subby.

2013-06-11 05:13:30 PM
So do we actually get to see Smaug in this one, or is this movie just the buildup?

2013-06-11 05:17:00 PM

karmaceutical: Smaug

I'm guessing the Smaug reveal will be the last scene.

They cast Kate from Lost because she looks like Liv Tyler.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, the actor who plays Thorin looks like Viggo. They are playing with you subliminally in order to make you love the Hobbit films just as much as you loved the LOTR.

2013-06-11 05:17:47 PM
Doctor Who? There is no such character.

You should probably stick with the Transformers franchise.  Things like plot and dialogue are clearly obstacles to enjoyment for you.

How about the dead winning the Battle of Pelennor Fields?

2013-06-11 05:21:05 PM
First one was okay, probably better than Fellowship. All I ask is that Jackson simply for my sheer joy give Smaug the lines "Shall we begin..." for no apparent reason.

2013-06-11 05:21:31 PM
So,  , is Hollywood going to start making movies for adults ever again, or do grownups have to continue to depend on serialized television?

2013-06-11 05:22:20 PM

FrancoFile: Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire in LOTR

Well, sure...NOW they could have. But the LotR movies were a HUGE gamble. There was no way of knowing how popular they were going to be at the time. As such, they had to cut some things, in order to not alienate non-fans of the books. Those two were amongst the first to go. I wish they had done it differently, but I'm in no way displeased with the movies, theatrical or extended release.

a) Too much obvious CGI. It's freaking 2013, make it look like it's not there dammit.
b) I didn't remember The Hobbit being quite so much an action story
c) Smaug better ass be voiced by John Hurt ... *checks IMDB* ... Benedict Cumberbatch?? Dammit....

I'll actually give that one a pass.  Since the story of the dead is told in retrospect in the books, rather than direct POV, it's never clear to me when I read that exactly where the dead have completed their mission and the Men of Gondor take over the Corsairs fleet.

I didn't see a doctor who anywhere...

THIS.  I'm pretty sure Cumberbatch could silence an entire room of people just with his voice.

Opposite effect for me because I didn't really like LOTR that much.  A large part of that was because of Elijah Wood's Frodo.  Martin Freemen however, is awesome.  So I'm enjoying these more, so far.

I agree he is great, but I'm reminded of Billy Boyd's Pippin every so often in his look and performance. Another example of the subliminal trickery afoot.

I wish Hollywood directors were half as knowledgeable, competent, and able as Internet directors.
