Well, it's not that, it's just that we don;t want to breed a culture of dependancy where these people are totally reliant on the government for thier sustenance and support, which is way different from a situation where we make the Air Force or Army buy unneded equipment  because otehrwise the companymaking that equipment would be forced to go out of business and that would cost people in my district their jobs

People on SNAP and TANF don't donate to political campaigns, whereas there's an incredibly well-financed movement to make it "clear" to the rest of the country that 90% of government food aid is fraudulently collected and then spent on cigarettes and 24" rims for the recipients' PS4s.

Hopefully, however, with the economy growing and home prices stabilized, we'll actually need to feed fewer of our citizens with handouts.

No, the important thing is to keep those tank and jet-engine building jobs in those Congressional districts.
The hungry poor people is just a bonus.

We would have to feed a lot less people if the minimum wage was a living wage. Republicans don't want to pay people enough to live but they don't want to provide foodstamps or healthcare. In short, their idea of dealing with the problem of poor people is to encourage them to die as quickly as possible.

I can't decide which to go with here:

We won't need foodstamps with a properly funded defense machine - everyone will be employed building weapons for profit and our children, the old, and the infirm will feast on the bounty of freedom.

or,

We're going to need those tanks and joint-strike fighters once people get hungry enough to take to the streets.

You know, at this point I wouldn't put it past the GOP to put forward their grand policy to eliminate hunger in the form of a book titled. "To Serve the Poor".  Or maybe they're scale it back and just put a modest proposal out on a postcard. . .

No, government spending on things that are not needed (like tanks) is bad... Especially when you're cutting from programs that feed American citizens in need.

I know it's hard to pay attention while you being a rugged individual on the internet, but do try or you'll just end up looking like an asshole.
