The sad part about today's politics is that there really isn't anyone viable candidate who would roll this sort thing back.  I still like Obama better than Romney or McCain, but this whole thing is just so wrong.

Yes, that is the main problem with the GOP these days. Everything that we don't like about the Democrats, the GOP does it just as much, if not more.

The weird thing is that she said that as a bizarre attempt to defend Obama. FTFA:

"In a way, the NSA intelligence gathering is President Obama's Katrina. While the accusations may be ignorant and unfair, it nevertheless becomes the final blow that drains support from independents and his base and sends his poll numbers plummeting."

Of course, this presupposes that the Criticisms of Bush in re Katrina are ignorant and unfounded, but whatever, in the words of an old commercial "from a deli owner, that's a rave."

THe NSA thing SHOULD be Obama's Katrina (or whatever you want to call it).  The GOP is involved in the conspiracy so it won't go anywhere.  NSA spying will fall off the news radar after the next high profile nipple slip.

If any of the piles of dog poo in Congress voted for the Patriot Act, they should STFU and GBTW on repealing it.

I'm not letting Obama off the hook on this.  But if you're a member of Congress, you have a means of correcting it.  By doing your farking job for a change.

She was very nearly coherent right up until the last 3 paragraphs.  Short version:

"We don't know enough about Prism to say if it's bad.  That's OK, because 0bama totally lost all credibility because of Benghazi, IRS, and all the other scandals we caught him on.  Oh, and criticizing 0bama for Prism is exactly like saying bad things about Bush because of Katrina."

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Last week, we looked at the phone data collection program that collects metadata on calls so that the government can detect unusual patterns. Contrary to the hysteria generated from some Republicans and the left, the government is not listening to your calls, unless it has probable cause, individualized suspicion, to zero in on you. This is done by court order and subject to congressional review.

The source for this assertion is the same government that said it wasn't doing this and now is. Pardon me while I scoff in your general direction.

A Dark Evil Omen: How many Katrinas has Obama had now?

Too many to take seriously...

This isn't "Obama's"... this, and things like this, have been going on since humans had methods of communications and were suspicious of each other.

The only thing that has changed is that it has become more sophisticated as technology has become more sophisticated. If you're surprised by any of this I wonder how you managed to remain so oblivious to the obvious.

2013-06-11 01:49:57 PM
Let's be honest, Obama's inability to fix the Guantanamo thing, the NDAA thing, the drone thing, and these types of spying programs really are terrible for the country as a whole, and Obama should be ashamed of himself for continuing the Bush-era policies.

An argument can be made that these actions have made our country safer given how few terror attacks have happened on US soil really since 9/11, but I don't give him a passing grade on this. Our personal freedoms under the 4th and 5th amendments have almost certainly been infringed.

However being president is more than this one issue, and Congress and the courts have been similarly complicit in these dealings, as have a large portion of the American public who fear the next attack and are fine with living in an Orwellian state as long as they have a job and car and house and money to buy more stuff.

The scary part happens when and if the wrong regime gets control of the Republic. They'll be able to target dissidents, spy on people with ease, and act with surgical manner in whatever fashion they see fit. Will the leaders even need humans to control the population at that point? Will drones and robots with mounted machine guns simply suffice? What about mounted lasers or systems which disperse riots with microwaves or targeted sound? It's not as sci-fi as it sounds.

Better hope that doesn't happen.

2013-06-11 01:50:16 PM
I just want to point out that Obama is black. I say that in case you didn't get it.

Also, I clicked the link (shudder) and was blown away to actually see the phrase, "Obama's Katrina".

Plus, they farking mention probable cause.  What's the probable cause for snooping even this much?

"We have your house under surveillance.  We're not watching what you do inside.  But we're looking at your mail, the people coming to visit you, when you are out, what's in your garbage.  We'll only enter your house for when we have probable cause from all that other stuff we're doing."

2013-06-11 01:51:14 PM
And finally, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, argued that Greenwald "says that he's got it all and now is an expert on the program. He doesn't have a clue how this thing works. Neither did the person who released just enough information to literally be dangerous."

Book it, done.

The people who want to lynch a certain uppity Negro in Washington will have to find a new BENIRSUMBRAZI.

/obviously there are lots of people who are upset about the program and not upset about the color of the guy in charge

Ever notice there's always a Republican president's scandal that can be used for bad hyperbole to parallel a Democratic president's scandal? Funny, though, I can remember being told Watergate, Iran-Contra, the Plame outing, letting 9/11 happen, letting Katrina happen, et al. weren't scandals at the time that they happened.

And, when Dubya sat on his ass and did nothing while 3,000 were killed in the WTC attacks, when Dubya sat on his ass while people were left for dead in New Orleans in the wake of Katrina, or when Ronald Reagan armed Osama Bin Laden, I don't recall any political commentator saying, "This is just as bad as something Jimmy Carter once did!"

I still smile when I remember what Hillary said in an interview about ol' Bill after that incident: "Well, he's always been a hard dog to keep on the porch."

Michelle would kill Barack in a most spectacular fashion, without a doubt.
