EyeballKid: If that doesn't work, they should try alfalfa. Hopefully, though, nothing will stymie their efforts.
give me doughnuts: Just keep that little slut Darla way. She was the original Yoko.Remember the Little Rascals movie from 1994?This is Darla:[4.bp.blogspot.com image 400x186]

ZeroPly: spicorama: Bees die off, and then something something happens... Isn't this a shamanalananalam movie movie already? The truth is much stranger than fiction. The hives are not covered with dead bees, which means they are not dying at home, so to speak. They are wandering away, getting lost, and dying across widely distributed areas - hence it looks like they are just "disappearing".Why? Back in the 90's this research was done, and all followup studies were quickly suppressed by the highest levels of the US government:http://discovermagazine.com/1997/nov/quantumhoneybees1263#.UbdFT5xGX sUThe "flag manifold" is a bit misleading - the classified research which I cannot give details on was about how the navigation algorithm of bees relies not on a simple R^3xT calculation like humans would use, but on the fibration within MInkowski 4D, so for example the flag manifold would be a quasilinear section of a compact Calabi-Yau manifold. My math is very weak so I do not understand the details, but I have been taking classes at the community college to better grasp this. But bottom line, the air force wants very simple devices, the size of a watch, that will do navigation without radio waves being involved. A few dead bees are no big deal to Obama/Cheney if that's what it will take to get the job done.So who wrote this article? Was it some bee researcher who took some undergrad math? You'd probably be surprised that it was a computational astrophysicist. The bees' navigation systems are failing because the fundamental topology of the universe is changing. This explains why the physics models are so kludged - and why the equations don't work unless you mix in voodoo like dark matter and negative gravity. It would be like the value of pi changing: your GPS unit would start malfunctioning without corrections.
